I'm sure there are probably other ways to tackle this fight but this was the one I have the most success with.

That worked! I know there's a not-so-secret bfg right by the red key door, but I wanted to tackle that fight the hard way. Thanks!

I am done! These maps are brutal despite the low monster count. Wouldn't necessarily consider it comparable to the likes of Swift Death, because all the fights here don't really rely on RNG as much as they do on the player's capability to assess the situation. Myolden is extremely generous with resources as well, especially so if you're a good secret hunter.

 

I love how you basically took the texturework of each corresponding Plutonia level and integrated it into the ObZen maps. Will play Pina Colada next  and looking forward to your future endeavours!

Adjacent to Firedust's note: this lion switch is S1, so if you miss the yellow key twice like I did, you can't return to it. 

 

You have my vote for Creator of the Year, by the way. I've been burning through this wad -- the first few maps brutalized me (MAP 01 is insane!), but it's evened out down the stretch and kept up the maniacal energy. Great job!

And finished. Very fun and challenging wad. Once you get accustomed to the way fight works, you can defend yourself better (I didn't played with -pistolstart btw and still, it was hard). I still think that map01 is the hardest and i am convinced that i finished that map by accident lol.

Year of the plutonia it seems. :D

 

 

 

Anyway here's a blind playthrough up to Map11. Expect dumb deaths and everything.

Quite enjoyable, and much tougher than I expected. The lack of armor is definitely the primary source of challenge. My favourites are m04, m05, m09 and m11.

Hello everyone, I just wanted to bump the thread to let you all know that RC2 is now available in the OP with a few fixes.

RC2 Notes:
 

Spoiler

- Fixed a misaligned switch texture in map 27

- Changed switch mistakenly set to activate once in map 27
- Fixed a typo on the ENDOOM screen

- Moved keys in map 31 to prevent players from picking them up through the wall

- Added BOSSBACK screen

I guess the final fight of Map18 should be changed a bit. Now you can just quickly escape the fight and camp at the start since the Rev can take the teleporter and can't even move at the starting point.

Oh damn, I forgot to fix the HUD in this version. Thanks for reminding me! I do have a couple of projects in development right now but I usually prefer to keep things under wraps until they're ready.

UV pistol starts with saves

Port: DSDA-Doom v0.27 -complevel 4 (test build)

Personal Difficulty Evaluation: 2.2 (2 = Ancient Aliens)

Personal Rating: 8.3 (out of 10)

 

 

Overall pretty fun WAD all around. It's very brutal with some of the traps. I personally wouldn't say it's Plutonia level of trap anymore, but I guess Plutonia is too easy according to nowadays' standards heh. The whole map setups are indeed very close to Plutonia, but the fight is more towards a narrow space, so it does need good understanding how the Rocket Launcher would work.

 

All the maps are short and intense, which is very good that if you're looking for a bite sized challenge mapset.

 

A few things that I found out:

 

The style of the secrets is a bit too similar. Almost all the secrets are off colored texture, so I guess it could be a bit different from time to time.

 

There are quite a few of rocket eating walls. At least I noticed more than 10 instances throughout the playthrough, but luckily only 1 of those actually screwed me up when I'm doing a BFG wall shot. I'm still not sure what caused this in the mapping perspective so can't really help reporting every single of them.

 

Map25 is the only map I am stuck with no ammo at the end. I didn't find a way to kill that Cyber efficiently. Maybe a teleporter can be offered at the end to telefrag him, or have a bit more ammo for the final release of those 2 AVs.

Is it just my problem, or certain skies and textures are blacked out for anyone else ?!...... Running on GZ 4.10 btw. Sorry couldn't get the whole loading screen, the launcher loads real fast !

It looks like you might be running this with Doom2.WAD instead of Plutonia.WAD, I'd double check that first.

I seem to be unable to get all secrets on MAP03. I have found the secret closet opened by pressing a nearby skull switch, but what about the other?

How the ever-loving fuck do you do the cyberdemon/manc/archvile fight in map 12?  

 

Frustration aside, this set is an absolute treat.  It kicks my ass in exactly the way I love. :D Thanks for making this, my dude.
