Saturnine Chapel by dobu gabu maru is such wonderful level involving slime textures, I didn't see it mentioned.

I adore DGM's work and I somehow missed out on this one. Thank you for the mention.

I like it. I associate it strongly with techbase maps but it fits other styles just as well. Not the biggest fan of using radsuits however.

The bigger question when using slime would be, is it mucus or radioactive slime?

Because if it's the former, where is all that mucus coming from? Who's nose is so big  where all of that is being stored and released? Or is it the nasal content of thousands of demons combined?

The thought grosses me out more then it being just radioactive slime.

And don't you fucking make me swim in it!

Shout out to slime maps with ethereal ambient music, gotta be one of my favorite genders

If I had the creative energy rn, I'd make that into an image

I prefere to force my perceptions and see "slime" as just dirty water.

When water is very dirty and stagnant it can become green or brown. And hurt you.

But really, I'm not a big fan of the nukage aesthetic. Couple it with traditional techbase and you got what's probably my least favourite DOOM theme - if it's using stock textures, that is. Otherwise can be really interesting

The thought of wondering what the slime is or where it came from honestly adds to the sort of mysterious and beguiling atmosphere I get from these types of maps. The big reveal in Mucus Flow where all of the slime actually comes from a big nose protruding from a rock is so endearing to me that it gave me the idea the the slime can be more than just radioactive sludge.

It's to the point where sometimes I don't think about where it came from, whether it be from some sort of devastating accident that flooded the whole area or if its natural and it came from the very land you walk on. That to me, adds to the sort of grim wonder it evokes to me.

Boy, people are gonna think green slime is like my favorite thing or something.

Icon of Sin, of course. Always sneezing out monsters, gotta have mucus for days, you know?

All the monsters actually make and extract the mucus inside of the Icon of Sin for the purpose of slowing down Doomguy. Why else are the UAC bases so full of the stuff?

also what is that cretura in your pfp please thanks

My favourite theme by far is Darkwave's maps in the first episode of SoD. It's such a mood. How the natural hues of green and brown clash with the sterile silver structures of human interference, with a lake or a river of green poison nearby. Seeping through the walls and ceilings, as if everything is soaked in the stuff, and it's about to burst through. Doomguy's boot sinking into the mud with a wet squish. Demons' grunts and growls echoing through the vast dark caves. Flickering lights and computer panels with enough juice to barely keep on.

It's the best.

I could really tell when playing your map

Not sure if you wanted an answer given the strike-through, but it's a purple coyote

The coolest thing you can do with your maps when it comes to slime or other liquids is connecting them in some way through streams or falls. I really dig attention to detail like that.

I like Saturnine Chapel because of its mystic look, but I don't care for the slime thing because I don't like the color green that much. Some of them are really cool but I just don't enjoy looking at them. It would look cooler to me if it was a white slime Semen Stream or even a pink slime McDoomald's instead of a putrid green Mucus Flow.

I like Map 10 from Alien Vendetta. That one has great atmosphere along with Plasma track from Duke 3D.

MAP10, "Toxic Touch"

I think that map is the OG slime map.

The music choice and dark lighting colonized into people's minds what a slime map should be: ethereal, mysterious, self-reflective, dark, etc...
