Is there a way to make a line def inactive on a switch until it is raised?

WesternRaven

Question

This is my first map project! I have a switch in the floor that raises up after activating another switch. How do I keep the hidden switch from being activated before it is raised? You can simply hit use over the line def if you know where it is, before it raises. Ultimate Doom Builder, Vanilla.

Actually there is one way to do this in vanilla, though it's somewhat tricky and not something I'd recommend without significant experience with vanilla mapping quirks. If the switch is specifically one that raises a floor to the height of an adjacent sector, it is sometimes possible to arrange your sectors such that the switch sector is itself one the adjacent sectors, so that the floor will not raise to the correct height unless the switch is already raised (make sure it's a repeatable switch action (SR) so the player isn't stuck if they pressed it prematurely).

If you don't understand how to do this, don't try until you're more experienced; these sorts of contrivances always cause headaches even if you know what you're doing. Just put your switch in a closet behind a remotely opened door, and make sure the door isn't thin enough to press the switch from the outside.

Like Edward850 says, just put it behind a sector with a raised floor, preferably one with a sector height of 0 so it's closed off.

This can be a problem if you want the switch to say, be in the middle of an open courtyard, such as in my Nukage Treatment Pools map01. In my case, I just hid it under a non-descript section of floor so that no one without knowledge would know its there and think to press "use". (Also in my case, pressing it early wouldn't actually hurt anything progression-wise)
