What doom map deserved to be in top 100 most memorable maps?

To me the key word here is "memorable". Not all memorable maps are necessarily good in other respects. I sometimes come back to maps that are maybe not so great in hindsight, but which were an important building block for me as a player. And there many such maps for me that I don't think I would necessarily would want to add to any top 100 lists.

Seems to me that the discussion has largely narrowed itself down from "maps that should have been on the list" to "maps released after the list that would have been eligible if released before it". In that regard, Sunder map15 has to be up there. What a comeback!

Personally I'd prefer a new list myself, with both stuff pre 2019 and stuff 2019 onwards. It would feel a lot more fair...and more interesting. Course they got the honorable mentions from 2018 to go by as well.

nochance should've made the list (instead of just being listed as a runner-up), I think it probably could've swapped places with Disturbia. Disturbia is obviously a more fleshed out map and is great in its own right, but nochance is so memorable for how it represented hardcore gameplay in its time, and it is still a difficult map today. It still sits as a landmark map for anybody playing increasingly difficult maps, it's even on the skill progression maplist. Also, I feel like a ton of people have seen it on youtube, and I bet a lot of people saw this on youtube before:

Nochance also gets bonus points for having an iconic map name. I guess maybe Disturbia is more memorable for its specific design and how it looks, especially considering how nochance is "another red rock lava hell map" with slaughterish gameplay that sometimes blends together with other maps in peoples' heads, but personally I remember Death-Destiny for nochance before I remember him for Disturbia. I love Death-Destiny.

 

Edit: Oh the music too, that symphony X midi, when you hear that song you think of this map, when you see this map you hear that song, the visuals of the map working with the hardcore gameplay working with the midi, it creates such a distinct and unforgettable experience to me.
