How do I align floor textures in vanilla format?

Dweller Dark

Question

I know how to do it using the UDMF format, but I don't know how or if it can be done in vanilla. For example, I've tried to make a teleporter alcove room, but the floor texture for that always ends up not looking correct and it seems I'd have to put the alcove elsewhere for it to show up correctly.

If you really need to "align" a flat in vanilla you can export the flat as a graphic, offset it however much you want, and import it back into your wad. Obviously not something you want to do very much of but sometimes it can be useful for a single teleporter or something.

In Boom and up, you can also use displacement scrollers to adjust flats by a certain amount at the start of your map. This is very fiddly but somewhat more flexible than creating a new flat. I can't seem to find an example wad at the moment but I know there are some.

As others have said, you don't, at least not in vanilla. Other formats (Hexen map format, Boom, etc.) have tricks you can use, but with Vanilla, everything is strictly aligned to the grid.
