Question

Is there any harm in using a customized gldefs? For example, I want the large torch to have a larger radius. Of course, my gldefs will reside in a custom directory, and only contain the few things I wish to modify.

No harm and you can have as many GLDEFS lumps as you like, just include them in the main one using their file path and name. Example:

Also if you use #include you don't need to name the others GLDEFS. You could have #include monsters.gl for example.
