Dreadopp Posted December 4, 2023 (edited) Huzzah! A release before the end of the year! A while back, @Lord_Z and I had been throwing a few ideas around for something small we could release before the year was over and this is the result (although it actually turned out to be fairly sizable, haha). This map is intended for Boom compatible, UMAPINFO enabled ports. We used GZDoom, PrBoom+, Woof!, and DSDA Doom for our own testing. Please do let us know if there are any issues that need addressing. Don't forget to save often! As always, feedback is greatly appreciated. :) Screenshots Spoiler Download Note that this wad was made with UMAPINFO in mind, so we recommend playing in a port that supports the format. Altitude Adjustment Enjoy! Edited January 23 by Dreadopp 32 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lord_Z Posted December 4, 2023 This time around we decided to take things back to basics, more or less. Who doesn't love a good ol' fashioned UAC tech base? We didn't want to just do that though so we came up with a setting that was a little different from the norm and also added a few Boom tricks to the environment. The map began life as a quick sketch on a whiteboard back in May. It was unclear how the idea would ultimately be used but it made sense to have it be a standalone thing. This project is smaller in scale than our previous collaborations and it serves as a bit of a break from the more intense designs. That said, we did have to pull back on the map's scope because of Boom's hard limits. Regardless, it was still fun to put together. Thanks for stopping by and I hope that you enjoy what there is to see here! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
AshtralFiend Posted December 4, 2023 What an amazing map! The architecture is really well done! Hangar, warehouse, control rooms, canteen, etc... So much stuff to see, chock full of details and doom cute! And while the fights aren't very difficult, they are fun and you better pay attention to your surroundings. Some of the secrets are easy to spot, others not so much. I spent around 15 minutes on my first playthrough looking for that final secret (the bathroom one). Also, I didn't encounter anything that I'd consider broken or strange, maybe a little HOM here and there (Played on DSDA). 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zahid Posted December 4, 2023 this is not a map but a work of art as William Wordsworth said in "Daffodils" we should stop and stare the beauty of nature, similarly i like most doomers stop and enjoy the beauty of those 2 huge fans and other sites.... progression is linear and simple...start is amazing...why bfg in toilet? gameplay is rather easy esp with secrets which are easy to find too...combats lack traps and snipers imo.... A great map visually my prboom cl9 fda no saves iddt used (unsuccessful) and a first exit uvmax speedrun popi9.zip 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dreadopp Posted December 5, 2023 Thanks for playing, everyone! And for the feedback/videos/demos! Always great to see those. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Maribo Posted December 15, 2023 Neat map with lots of gizmos and technology stuff to look at (I happened to notice that the big fans outdoors also "rotate" when viewed on the automap, which is fun). Wonderful use of silent teleporters to spoof a multi-storied building and a very tooth-y (:P) finale. A casual UV playthrough in -dsdademo format, v0.27.5 for playback - altadj-maribo.zip 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
⇛Marnetmar⇛ Posted December 15, 2023 Excellent map with pristine visuals and wonderful pacing. One of my favorite recent releases no doubt! 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

jmac Posted January 19 I finally got around to playing this, and it's a fantastic map. I don't know how you managed to pull off such a large, complex map without it ever feeling confusing. There's lots of cool visual details and tricks that made it fun just to explore each corner. The combat is easy but stays exciting throughout. This is going onto my list of favourites. Spoiler Also, that opening sequence of ramming your ship into the base is hilarious and caught me off guard. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Firedust Posted January 19 This map is nothing short of incredible. As expected of the creators of Intergalactic Xenology! Very much looking forward to the sequel :3 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
RED77 Posted January 19 that was an amazing map. I missed one enemy and one secret. My only note it's that there's no way back from the last arena. other than that. just amazing 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
DreadWanderer Posted January 19 (edited) My UV max playthrough (also all items, I love items): Really lovely stuff, it's like an extended scene from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind but much grittier. The details are fantastic. Looking forward to the sequel. Please excuse the occasional framerate drops, my machine isn't that great and the map's complexity stretches resources during recording. DreadWanderer Posted January 19 Bit of a follow-up: I did a boo-boo and erroneously thought that this map is by Dreadopp alone rather than both Dreadopp and Lord_Z. I've corrected this in my notes. Apologies! Also, if you know the name and creator of the MIDI, please let me know so I can namedrop them. Thank you. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Shaqodemon Posted January 22 Just checked this out. Very fun map. I enjoy standalone maps that are about exploration rather than combat. I liked looking at all the little details put into it. One that stuck out was in the big open area where you fight the cyberdemon. I saw some kind of machine laying there with one light on and one off. I investigated and found that one cord was plugged in and the other was destroyed. I also liked the control rooms that were circle shaped. They had the control panels and two monitors on each side. I felt very immersed. There was another part that I said "oh, that was cool" to myself but I can't remember what it was :( I don't have any negative feedback really. The armor was placed pretty deep in the level, I think. The armor bonuses were enough to keep you protected so it's not a big deal. I also got lost for a few minutes in the beginning because I didn't know there was a vent to crawl into hidden amongst some boxes. In retrospect I felt a little dumb because I saw the candles there earlier but didn't really process what that meant. The combat, like I said before, was fine for a map like this. I liked being able to check out the decor without having to arduously keep demons off my back. I feel like the final fight in hell was a pretty steep jump in difficulty. I didn't have any trouble but someone else who isn't a huge doom nerd might get killed there and have to redo everything. I enjoyed the fight, though. Great way to end a level. Anyway, fantastic map! I look forward to seeing what else you two got up your sleeves. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
LVENdead Posted January 22 This really is a delightful map with lots of cute details and some awesome Boom scripting to do things I typically don't see. The most obvious thing is the super cool crash landing at the start, but for me the freaking sector flag blowing in the wind was probably one of the most fascinating details purely because of how "small" it is of a thing and yet it had to have a very intentional amount of work put into it. I really dug the non-linear progression (even if I got stuck a couple of times) and how much of the ship was explorable. Great stuff. Here's a video of my playthrough if you're into that kind of thing :) 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dreadopp Posted January 22 Thanks a lot for playing through the map, and for the feedback! We are glad your enjoyed yourselves. :) 6 hours ago, LVENdead said: Here's a video of my playthrough if you're into that kind of thing :) Thanks for putting together the video as well! What was slightly annoying to see was that slime trail because I swear we fixed that like three times before the release! :P 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Pechudin Posted January 23 Nice map. Wish the cannons fired; this would be a nice Wolfenstein-themed map, similar to one of those last maps of Wolfendoom: TBoA. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
