Things in a map

GiacoLiveDoomer

Question

HI! I recently put a custom map in my WAD, which replaces map 29, but I want to change the objects/enemies in it without having to move all the elements like "SEGS", "SSECTORS" etc. How do I change just the objects? Do I just replace THINGS or do I have to replace everything else too? Thanks!

1) Things are changed by opening the map in a map editor, and going to "Things" mode.

2) You posted this exact same topic 5 hours ago. That's long enough for it to not be an accidental double-post. It's bad etiquette to make a duplicate thread, whether or not anyone has replied to it.

Just a hunch because of the way you've phrased things, but are you trying to edit the actual Doom2.WAD's Map 29 in Slade?

Sorry I posted the question twice, I left it on an open tab and for some reason the first time I clicked publish it didn't close the screen to edit the question. I'm new to Doomworld. However, the question is not specifically for map 29. There are other maps that I edited, but I was also asking for map 29. Maybe I didn't explain myself well, I meant that:
I replaced the freedoom phase 2 maps with custom maps made by me, but I noticed that I wanted to change some enemies/elements that I had placed without modifying every single element such as LINEDEFS, SEGS, SIDEDEFS etc... is it possible or do I have to change every single element?

You said you made custom maps. Presumably, you placed those things when you created those maps. Changing them works the same way.  You should never, ever need to fiddle with LINEDEFS, SEGS, SIDEDEFS, etc just to change things which are placed, so it doesn't seem like you're even looking in the right place to edit maps at all.

The only reason I could think you would be having trouble with that is that you're trying to edit an IWAD using Slade 3's editor.

What editor are you using, and what wad file are you using?

The WAD has to contain the THINGS, LINEDEFS, SIDEDEFS, VERTEXES, etc. lumps after the map marker. Just putting the THINGS lump by itself won't work to replace the things without changing the level geometry, you'll have to include a copy of the other lumps. So, I'll try to explain myself better.
I opened Ultimate Doom Builder, and created a simple custom map. Then, I saved the map as a WAD. Then, I opened freedoom2.wad on Slade, and replaced all the elements (SEGS, THINGS, LINEDEFS etc) of the original MAP01 with the elements of my MAP01, and the new custom map worked perfectly, without any problem at all. The editor I use is SLADE 3. I'm not having any kind of problem, mine was just a question. However, Shepardus already answered my question. Thank you for answering me.

???

Maybe I'm missing something, but couldn't you just have created a new wad file using freedoom2.wad as your source file instead of Doom2, instead of trying to replace parts of the original freedoom2 IWAD? That sounds like a simpler way. I don't know if that actually works, but I am genuinely uncertain.
