How to inflict damage to voodoo doll? (in Boom, and also stuff 'bout turrets and secret messages)

Question

I thought that making the doll fall or go through damaging sector would work but no. Crushers work? I've never done one. I'd like the voodoo doll to take as minimal damage as possible but keep on taking damage (got conveyor belt for that set up). Can someone tell me how to set up a crusher or some other way?

 

I've also replaced SS guys with automatic turrets and just friggin' love 'em. I grabbed and edited the sprites from somewhere in the net. Anyway, I'd like to turn the minigun shooting enemy into more robust turret. Any good free to use turret sprites/images out there? Also I guess it wouldn't be possible to replace either sounds (SS or minigun guy) without changing players pistol sound? Any ideas for sensible alert sound? I tried a clip of an actual military turret rotating but doesn't fit and feels stupid if player can see that the turret isn't rotating when the sound is played. (actually this got me a possible idea that what if I made turret's walking state into rotation? would it work without glitches?)

 

Last thing, I've thought of placing hidden messages to my map. One, I'm sure already used, way would be a QR code but it's kinda huge. I thought of micro QR but who'd read it and how? I can't find an app even for my iPhone to read micro QR codes and reading it from a Doom map might not be making things easier. Are there readers for Windows PCs or online ones? I can't even verify if online generated code is correct. I find it weird that app store etc is bloated with regular QR stuff but micro QR feels obscure. Any other "codes" that might be cool to put to the map? Besides regular bar codes, braille and morse. You can also DM me so the secret is kept should I release something ;)

There are several ways to do a damaging effect to a voodoo doll.
I tend to make things overly complicated but here's my take:
I would set up a cyberdemon in a sector outside the playable area across from a friendly monster with cover from the rockets so it never directly takes damage but the cyber attacks continiously. Placing the voodoo at a proper distance away from the rocket barrier would result in low damage, the farther from the blast, the less the damage.
If you want the map 100%'able you'd use a kill monsters sector transfer effect for the cyber and friendly monster.

Myhouse featured a readable QR code, you may want to look into that for an example.
To further hide the code they split it up into quarters at the corners of the texture so it would only be the full code when tiled and aligned a certain way.

Sounds like a clever but to me a bit complicated solution. Sorry my stupidity but what do you mean exactly by "friendly monster"? I was thinking that is there a way to make a respawning barrel or a barrel spawner with dehacked? (btw. I'm not using monster spawner or achvile at all so if they'd have suitable properties?)

 

I'd really appreciate more help and possible examples.

 

Thanks for myhouse recommendation, I know it, seen a bits of vids etc but I'm trying to avoid from plagiarizing it (and anyway my skills wouldn't allow anything nearly as complex nor do I want to, I just like branching paths, secret messages, tiny mindf*ckery etc).

Sorry for double post but instead of barrel generator maybe one could make an explosion generator but how?

 

Also biggest problem yet, the turrets (replaced SS guys), which are main enemies in my map, start infighting and kill 'emselves :( I was at first so happy with my turret filled maze etc. Is there a way to disable infighting in Boom? (or make a ZDoom patch so G/ZDoom users wouldn't have the issue?)

 

edit: Also, is it possible to create player scrolling/pulling/pushing floor without having the flat(s) scroll?

I ended up making an explosion generator with dehacked, just one spawn frame that explodes and repeats itself every 1 tic, works like a charm. Thanks goes to Esselfortium etc, I got the the idea from KDiKDiZD thread :) Now I can inflict damage. Just wondered if there's a way to keep the voodoo doll (on conveyor belt) from moving and if not, making sure if doesn't get stuck?

 

Also, still the biggest problem: is there _any_ way to prevent infighting? It's a sad thing when a player can defeat my turret maze by strafing and jumping around before entering it, watching my beautiful turrets shoot themselves :/ Can anybody help me if it's possible or tell me if it's not? (even any hacky solutions? like certain linedefs or sumtin to keep turrets from seeing/shooting themselves? though I'd much prefer if they just didn't infight at all).

 

PS. Is there a way to teleport a player to air? (to like make him fall after teleporting? only way I can think of is to teleport him to a pitch black sector with moving floor that pushes him but are there more elegant solutions?)
