Doom_Dude Posted June 10 (edited) It took me far longer to post about this than I should have. How is it June already? I'm sorry to have to be the messenger of bad news. On the 11th of November, 2023 I got word that Kent had passed away. I still can't believe it. I looked for his obituary online, many times, but never found it. I guess I was hoping he would show up again but he never did... his presence on Discord, Steam, etc is no longer there. Actual cause of death is unknown... I assume it was his heart. I had a good friendship with Kent. Back in the early days, a small group of us Newdoomers would Deathmatch on a few maps I made for Doom and Kent was there, falling in the lava while trying to get the rocket launcher. lol. Later on Kent and I would play Guild Wars and more recently Fallout 76. We both picked up F76 last July when it was on sale. It was a blast and he was always messing with his camp and hunting down full sets of power armor and shooting the hell out of Scorchbeasts. I dropped out of F76 to play Starfield and I wish I had stayed with 76 longer while he was still playing. He tried Starfield but didn't care for it much and went back to Fallout 76. It's really odd loading up 76 now and he's no longer on there messing with his stuff. I just can't bring myself to play it anymore. I wrote this for the Doom Wiki. If some kind person could add it to the Memorial section, that would be great. Rewrite it if needed or whatever. Otherwise I'll see about setting it up myself... Quote Kent Carson. Known as Looney2ner and later as Mordastine, passed away on November 1st, 2023 at the age of 61. Kent was an American who lived in Florida and later settled in Michigan. He was a truck driver, computer tech, artist, photographer, level designer and modder. After suffering a back injury, Kent created the Looney Tunes Doom mod (a partial conversion for Doom 2) as a Christmas gift for his brother, using a win95 computer with Corel 5 and Windows Paint as his only tools. There was also a Looney Tunes Doom 2 in the works that fizzled out in the mid 2000's. In 2001 he designed a Deathmatch map called Hunted1 for Newdoom's Wad In A Week contest but he was unable to complete it on time and released the level after the contest ended. In 2019 he suffered a heart attack and battled with pneumonia. During recovery he was told to not drive commercial type of vehicles anymore (he was driving cement trucks) so he then went into retirement. In 2020 he suffered another heart attack and made a full recovery after surgery. Prior to his passing he was working on a large Aztec themed map for Doom 2 with lots of traps, custom textures and 3D floors, with plans for new sounds, enemies and weapons. He maintained a page for his projects on Doom Wad Station. Kent was an avid gamer that loved Doom, Age of Empires, Guild Wars, Dishonored, The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series. He will be missed by his family and friends. https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Looney_Tunes_Doomhttps://www.doomworld.com/sir_robin/castle/reviews/l.html Goodbye my friend and thanks for all the laughs. taufan99 Posted June 10 All my deepest condolences for Carson. His name may not exactly be the most well-known in the current Doom fandom, but that doesn't mean his contributions should be any less valid. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spooner5020 Posted June 10 Oh damn!! I only knew him by his Looney Tunes Doom mod. It was one of the first wads I played for Doomsday/jdoom. I think I even had the desktop theme for it. Shame he passed. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
