Relinquished Posted August 21, 2017 I've attached my final teaser picture of my current project 'Technomancy.' All the scenery and map design is now finished, and it is almost ready for beta testing. My final tasks are lighting and finalising the game play elements, which I'm going to test before posting. I'm really excited about releasing this, and it will be my first map posted to the idgames archive. It has taken a great deal longer than I expected, but I've really pushed myself with this one, trying many things I've never attempted before. I'm looking forward to showcasing it in the very near future. 14 Quote Share this post Link to post

Cheshire Sphinx Posted August 25, 2017 I'm working on a map for the Heretic Upstart Mapping Project (HUMP) tentatively titled 'Valley of the Gods' or 'Valley of Temples'. It's a meant to be a sprawling, nonlinear and highly interconnected (I hope) map. Right now, I'm still learning the (limited) textures and blocking out the map itself. I think it's coming along pretty well and once I start detailing, it'll really shine. Layout: Temple along northern part of the map: Central path: I'm still learning the textures (and Heretic in general), so there's room to improve. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
mypetrobot Posted August 26, 2017 I'm a doomworld lurker, this is my first post. Over the past week I've been diligently working on my first WAD in 15+ years. In high school I used to churn out Doom content for my friends on a regular basis, so I can't say I'm a newb, but I will say that making maps with these modern tools is way different [easier?] than whatever we had back in the late 90s (I wanna say I used DoomEd, but screenshots of the software are elusive and my memory is shot). Needless to say, it was slow going at first while I was regaining my footing, but I think I have a reasonable handle on this stuff. Anyway, I'm embracing the doomy techbase aesthetic but attempting to strictly use only custom textures that I make (my day job is in the visual arts). My goal is to make 1 large map with vanilla Doom gameplay, but a bit of a metroidvania style of progression. Who knows what'll come of this, hopefully I'll be able to ride this wave of motivation to a successful completion of the map. Here are a couple screenshots, all of this stuff is in flux and subject to drastic changes: Thanks for letting me share! 22 Quote Share this post Link to post

Impressively complex map. If you want to release it, upload your wad to any file hosting site and post the link (read this before). mypetrobot Posted August 26, 2017 Quote Architecture and textures both look awesome! Thanks man, it's getting there! Quote This DoomEd? It's unlikely you had access to the original, official DoomEd, which wasn't publicly available until 2015. Yeah, that's the DoomEd (not the official one)! To confirm, I set-up Windows 3.1 on Dosbox and installed the program. This loading screen is forever etched in my brain: I took a few other screenshots for posterity (since I couldn't find any yesterday with a quick google search): 8 Quote Share this post Link to post

mypetrobot Posted August 26, 2017 Quote Hey, are you okay with uploading these screenshots on the Doom wiki? Sure, no problem. I uploaded them and added them to the DoomEd 4.2 wiki page. The change is pending review. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

If you're not done yet and just want a playtest send it to my message box. Otherwise you can look me up on Facebook (same user name (name's Lee Davis)) and send me the file directly. My email is leeallendavis@gmail.com if that's easier. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Cheshire Sphinx Posted August 26, 2017 Holy crap, DoomEd! I didn't cut my teeth on it, I was using one of those early commercial editors who's name I forget, but man that brings back memories... Great looking map and thanks for contributing those images too. I'm going to go squee like a nostalgic little tart. :) 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
