    Millennium Stuff

    By Linguica, in News,

The Doom Millennium homepage has an update talking about further progress on the almost-done 32-level partial conversion. Lüt talks about editor problems, cutting out detail, and aligning barely-visible textures. Apparently 31.5 maps out of 32 are done, so hopefully we will be seeing this project released soon.

The Doomer's Recess has reviewed "Year 2 Kill" by Andrew Loly, which is described as "actually an OK map with a good layout despite the somewhat obvious misalignments."

This is the first new version since 4/1/00, for those of you keeping score.

    The /newstuff Chronicles #6

    By AndrewB, in News,

Seven more WADs for you to lose sleep over in this weekly wrapup of Newstuff.
QuakeDoom by Chris Pisarczyk - No, it\'s not QDoom. This Doom/Doom 2 partial conversion replaces most of the monster, weapon, and item sprites in the game. Besides the obvious sound replacements, there are bunch of new music tracks. There are no new levels, but this WAD should work well with whichever other WAD you would wish to use. Naberus by David Cummings - Nothing seems to work for atmosphere better than a little fog. This single map for Doom 2  shows off a few special effects. The level design is okay, although ammo does tend to run a little short, which can often be an exciting plus. Requires EDGE. Classics: Hotel by George Fiffy - A hotel-themed level for Ultimate DOOM played on E2M1. The textures are a little redundant, and the level design is a little less than detailed. The ammo supply is plentiful, and there\'s a whole lot of monsters squeezed into a fairly small-sized map. Nothing very exciting. Terror Wing by Brad Spencer - This Doom 2 deathmatch level depicts a rotating base out in space. There is a birthday Easter egg hidden in this WAD, supposedly dedicated to someone named Alex. Even if you\'re not into strangers\' birthdays, this should be a pretty good deathmatch. Requires ZDoom. Operation Destruction by Rick Clark - A rather small level. A few new textures. It starts out looking like a typical rooms/hallways level, but soon things become different. Areas open up to some impressive rooms over rooms. Some knee-high water, and some snazzy-looking teleporters. Still, the level is rather small. Requires EDGE. Wad04 by Robert Dudley - A single map for Doom 2. No new thrills such as textures or music. The gameplay is pretty good. Not redundant at all. Monster/ammunition balance is good. You may find dodging the enemies\' fire challenging, since most of the level is rather cramped. Package Distribution Network by De Zeurkous - An extremely small level for Doom 2. Ten very small rooms. A few monsters, some ammo, some switches, and an exit. That\'s pretty much it. betrcolr.zip, corridr2.zip, dhouse.zip, encount.zip, indigo.zip, noreturn.zip, and pressure.zip... All = BAD.

    DWBS

    By Linguica, in News,

Since I\'ve gotten perhaps 9 or 10 good entries in our 10 Sectors Contest, I figured I would start posting screenshots to let you guys see what sort of stuff has been done so far. Think you can do better than this? Then why not enter? Remember that the first prize is a Voodoo 5 5500 AGP video card, so get those level editors smoking. Even if you don\'t win, if your level is one of the best 32 I receive (which doesn\'t seem like it would be all that hard really), you\'ll be included in the 10 Sectors megawad we compile, and then everyone will know just how leetass you are.

    Crucifixion

    By Linguica, in News,

The Crucified Dreams homepage has been updated with eight new screenshots of the upcoming deathmatch WAD, including one showing off a map by Aardappel which is being coded rather than constructed. Also, Afterglow talks about the trials and tribulations of making a deathmatch WAD, and says that it'll probably be 32 maps, although that will include multiple versions of some maps (kind of a weird thing to do in my book).

    RUINS Released

    By Linguica, in News,

Fanatic's Asylum has announced the release of RUINS, Fanatic's little one-level mini-project to digress from work on QDoom a bit. It's about 2.5 megs and include one EDGE-only level, some new textures/flats/sounds, and a MP3 to play in the background to boot. Good stuff.
