I found a whole load of old Doom stuff on my old computer that I hadnt released. Most of this dates back to ~1998. Anyway, I've made the decision to clean it up and release it.
I am releasing:- stman.wad: Cute little graphics wad which changes the status bar face into a picture of the marine. There are two versions, stman.wad for multiplayer (the colour of the marine changes according to the player colour) and stman1.wad for single player (only green, but nicer graphics). Reviewed in NSC 229
- fragglicution: I found alternate versions of the two levels i made for Execution. I have a version of "fast frag" before it was split in two, and a later version of "nihilist" which I forgot to send in for inclusion in the project. Thanks to Nick Baker for permission to include his textures. Reviewed in NSC 229
- Newer version of Onslaunch . This was a DOS-based Doom launcher I wrote back in the mists of time. I have a version of this which I forgot to release. Status: In idgames. Doomworld doesn't show the new text file (bug in the idgames browser?)
- LMPIT: DOS based demo editor. This is released with source, but the code is a bit embarassing :-) Status: In newstuff.

oloedit: For Onslaunch, I developed a system called "OLO" where you could include a "OLO" lump inside your WAD to specify the names of levels. When you loaded the WAD in Onslaunch, it would display the correct names of the levels. I think Decamatch 2 had an OLO lump in it. Also, SMMU recognises OLO lumps and uses the correct names. This is an editor for OLO lumps.Status: Not bothering to release this.
- stman.wad: Cute little graphics wad which changes the status bar face into a picture of the marine. There are two versions, stman.wad for multiplayer (the colour of the marine changes according to the player colour) and stman1.wad for single player (only green, but nicer graphics). Reviewed in NSC 229

The only thing I hate more than slam-door trains is people who dont realise that to close the door on slam-door trains you have to slam them!
The rail network recently changed their announcement system. Until a few weeks ago the computerised announcement system talked about itself in the first person, saying "I'm sorry..." in response to delayed trains for example. They've finally realised how ridiculous this is and switched over to the more sensible "We are sorry".

wtf is gmail?
Internet mail provided by google. 1GB mail limit. It's still in beta at the moment so accounts are by invite only. It automatically scans your email and tailors adverts to it's content, if the email contains the word car you'll get Honda adverts etc.
I was sent 3 invites to my Hotmail account, only one got through so something odd is happening.

Grab the nearest book, open it to page 23, find the 5th sentence, post the text of the sentence.
And I beg of you to foster him, and to keep him hidden in your care; for I forebode that great good, for Elves and Men, shall come from him.

Fourth year Uni is a pain in the ass. I always said in the past that I hated exams and I'd prefer courses which were more coursework-based. Now I've had a chance to see the difference and I think I prefer the exam route.
I currently have four large courseworks due. Three of them are to be in May 7th (next friday). Here is my graphics coursework. Here is my IES (games) coursework. I think I've basically finished writing all the code I need to write now, which is kind of good. The bad side is that all of these require 5000 word reports. The fourth project (cryptography) is in May 14th (the following friday) and I've barely even looked at it yet.
On a happier note, I've successfully found myself a job which pays a decent salary, so I'm all sorted for next year. -
I just heard some sad news on talk radio - Horror/Sci Fi writer Stephen King was found dead in his Maine home this morning. There weren't any more details. I'm sure everyone on Doomworld will miss him - even if you didn't enjoy his work, there's no denying his contributions to popular culture. Truly an American icon.

I wrote this writeup on the Doom rendering engine a few days ago, it details how all the various parts of the rendering engine work together.
Writing it was actually an educational experience. I had to read through the source to clarify several things which I didnt understand and I've ended up understanding it better than I ever did before.
Anyway, I hope people find it informative and perhaps helpful. There only seem to be a few people that I've heard of who totally understand how everything works in the Doom engine.- Show previous comments 13 more

I repeat : yeah to me! :P
Time to update this little text of yourse I guess. ;)Well, technically we're both right. My writeup is supposed to be a fairly high level description of the engine, so describing visplanes as built from of vertical strips seems a better point of view. I'll certainly add a note in about it though.

I got the summer job I was hoping for. Now I get to sit around all summer porting games to IPv6. Can you say Sopwith v6? Woot.
