    Freedoom Update

Fraggle here with the weekly FreeDoom update. This week has been fairly busy. We have had texture submissions from Espi, KMan, Hyena, AirRaid and cph. Of particular interest are this patch and this patch which are replacements for the marble demon face textures. Credit goes to Espi for submitting them :). Our status on the wall patches passed 70% this week - there are now only around a hundred patches left until we have a complete texture wad. On the sprites front, we have Techlamps from Sir Fragsalot and Plasma from Hyena, as well as bullet puffs from Pickle_hammer. Espi also submitted a pistol replacement and Fredrik submitted his replacement for the BFG - the S.K.A.G. (which I believe stands for Super Kick Ass Gun :). Of particular interest, we received word from Saint of Killers about his work on the mancubus replacement. There are some interesting preliminary sketches here. Be sure to check out the latest wad. See you next week!

    Freedoom Update

Fraggle here with your weekly Freedoom update. This week has been a fairly busy week, with quite a few textures submitted. Special thanks go to Nick Baker, Meat Head, mmnpsrsoskl, and the ever present Espi, who all contributed textures over the past week. Welcome is in order for Nrkn, who has just joined and submitted his first textures this week. Our total for wall textures now stands at 68%. We had our second completed level submitted this week, Amarandes replacement for Map21. You can check out his level in freedoom_levels.wad on the Freedoom site. Amarande is now working on Map29. We had several new musics added into the wads this week. Of particular note is picklehammer, who submitted 10 original midis for the Freedoom effort. Several others which had already submitted but held back because they needed to be converted to the doom midi format were also added in. We now have over 18 original midis, all of which are free for reuse :). Be sure to check out the latest wad. See you next week!

    Freedoom Update

Hi, I\'m fraggle, and thanks to Linguica I\'ll be doing a weekly update on the progress of Freedoom here on Doomworld. It\'s been roughly a week and a half since we finished the last of the flats (floor and ceiling textures) - we have now succeeded in replacing all of the original Doom 1 and Doom 2 flats. Thanks are in order to everyone who contributed flats. Our main goal now is to continue with the wall patches heading towards our goal of creating replacements for all the Doom textures. In the past week since this happened we have of course had many submissions, including textures from Espi, Nick Baker, Fredrik, Isle, AirRaid, Lazer, Meat_Head and mmnpsrsoskl. We have also received our first complete level - MAP07 by Tarin. We hope to see more levels soon. On the sprites front, Lüt contributed the ruby gun from Doom Millenium. We also now have replacements for the rocket sprites (from Ebola\'s Hyena TC) and the Berserk Pack (from mmnpsrsoskl). Several people also submitted musics and sounds, particularly csabo, Nick Baker and Draconio. We now have quite a lot of replacement musics, some of which are not currently being built in because they have not yet been converted into .mus format. Thanks to everyone who has contributed over the past week. If I didnt mention you, dont take it personally, I\'m trying to make this concise :). More information is available in the Freedoom ChangeLog.

This replaces the status bar face with the green fish that is common on the doomworld forums.

I don't think anyone has done a dm6 conversion yet, so here's my attempt. I had to modify the level slightly because of the limits of Doom, but it includes quake textures and sounds. Users of legacy will also have a replacement 'jump' sound, and a new teleport sprite!

    GUS 1M-II

A later version of this by the same author exists in the archives as gus1mIId.zip. You're better off using that.
It's become cool to hate on GothicDM and all that followed it, which is a shame. I never saw playability as the point of these maps, it's pleasure enough just to walk around them in single player mode. The later WADs (gothic99) well and truly jumped the shark, but this is the first it's a definite classic, and hugely influential. GothicDM came out around the same time as Requiem and has some obvious overlap in contributors and style. Overall it's a beautiful blend of architecture, texturing and music.
Once voted greatest mapper of all time, Iikka has a talent for architecture and although I have no idea how well these play in a deathmatch, it's a joy just to wander around looking at them - it's no surprise that he went on to work in the game industry, contributing to games such as Half Life 2. Most of the levels consist of fortress/castle structures, and they're very reminiscent of the two levels (MAP06,27) that he later contributed to GothicDM - which might be seen as a perfection of this style.

    Suspended in Dusk

Espi was a great mapper and this is his greatest work. RIP.
Still my favorite patch set of all time. Nothing sounds quite like it.
