Tartar (EE-fork, DOS) - maintenance build available 05.05.24
SiFi270 replied to ludicrous_peridot's topic in Source Ports
Is it based on a version of Eternity that still supports FraggleScript? If so, it could be a good way to play DSV 4. -

Guess the Map [XI edition] (Extra newer Hints!)

Without hints: With hints: EDIT: Oh wait I can double check some things? I'll adjust my guesses accordingly then. -
From his beard to his boots, he was covered with ammo Like a big, fat, drunk, disgruntled yuletide Rambo And he smiled as he said, with a twinkle in his eye: "...OPEN! ...oh, my faaace D:" Category 2. Dead on map 2 at 8:41 with a total of 86 kills. I was already sloppy, and then panic made me sloppier. sidwih2h.zip

I was just wondering if the contents were the same as the original, or if it at least used the exact same EXE and IWAD. If not, I feel like that'd be handy information to have on the wiki. I realize I could have asked on a talk page, but I felt like I was more likely to get an answer here.

[GZDoom] DOOM CE: PSX TC & D64 Retribution, overhauled
SiFi270 replied to molecicco's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Very impressive. Two things I'd like to see are an option to toggle the Saturn version's status bar and an addon with MAPINFO lumps that skip the PSX lost levels. -
Worked out a couple more.

Unofficial Chex Quest 3, the one from 2001 with weapons taken from HacX and STRAIN. Not sure where it can be found nowadays, I had to recover it from a computer I haven't used in years. SHA1 is 100FD7B4DEC9DD299D7756CC3A6A419A94264926 and CRC32 is A6A5BF06. Anyway. E1M1: Infinity E1M1 E1M2: Eternity E2M4 E1M3: Serenity E3M3 E1M4: Infinity E1M4 E1M5: Infinity E1M5 Also quite a few of its sounds were from ZanZan.

Why do allusions to custom monsters throw me off so badly? I might have recognized the DOTB map if "blob" didn't make me think "oh maybe there's a mapset where someone recreates the unused monster that became the pain elemental", and I'd played the featured HacX map very recently but somehow thought of anything but that when I saw "non-Doom", and while the toads in Skyewood weren't actually monsters, and I got it right in the end, the second hint still had me wondering what could possibly be considered a toad in the Army of Darkness TC before thinking it might actually be from one of those old DM wads that used whatever movie clips they felt like for sounds.

I just checked Q64 in the PC version, and I'm also getting Reznor's music instead of Hodges'. If it helps, the Slipgate Complex is playing E1M2's music.

Checking out the latest DBP made me discover that having an empty line between [STRINGS] and the string replacements in a DeHackEd lump results in the strings not being replaced. This isn't the case in Crispy Doom or PrBoom family ports.

The DWmegawad Club plays: Interception II

The version included in Compendium doesn't seem to have this problem.

I should have known. Thanks for responding.

Tagging @Quasar, @Edward850 and @Kaiser just in case. Between killing the Bishop and reporting back to the Oracle, I copied my saves into a new folder so I could go back to them after getting the two bad endings. After copying them back to the main SVE folder I thought I could go back to the good ending path no problem, but upon entering Proving Grounds it seems to remember me? There's a solid red wall at the entrance and the whole map's already been uncovered. EDIT: I forgot to mention, the entrance next to where the Oracle was is still closed.

Thank you very much, it means a lot from you. I've just been recreating and extending it a bit in FamiTracker, but I'm not sure about making it loop good just yet. I think a better understanding of rows and frames could help though. sneakman.zip

One thing that helped for me was killing as many monsters as I could from the starting room so I wouldn't have to worry about them when the timer actually started. Yes, I realize how unhelpful that advice is to speedrunners.

This seems like a good place to ask about the maps recommended in this Twitter thread. I've always felt so tantalized whenever I read it. If one of the experts here could just list the file names, I'm confident I'd be able to find them myself.

Right now at my college I'm part of a team in a competition to make a 2D level based on the keyword "incognito" in about a week, and I've been assigned to sound design. I've drawn inspiration from tracks like Donna to the Rescue and Last Resort from Requiem to make this with Chrome Music Lab, which is pretty basic but as far as things I can access at college go, it's the best I can think of for the job. When I get home I intend to install something more serious, but in the meantime, is there any advice the composers here can give me?

I got enjoyment out of Map26 by seeing just how many of the monsters I could kill with infighting alone. It probably won't be fun for everyone though, and took me a fair bit of savescumming. Map28 is one I never truly beat though. My own conditions were "don't bother with monsters unless you absolutely have to, just get the secret and exit". There was one run where I couldn't get the secret and an arachnotron pushed me into the exit after the voodoo doll died, a couple where I died as soon as I reached the secret, and one where I just abused the solo-net parameter by letting myself respawn and then going through at my own pace. With map30 I honestly don't see what the fuss is about. It was hard, but from what I'd heard about it I was expecting to feel the same kind of hopelessness I'd felt during the last two thirds of Hell Revealed. If I'm fighting an Icon of Sin, I don't usually consider my victory legitimate if both the boss and I die, but in HR I was just too exhausted to stick to that rule. And Scythe doesn't even have any boss components other than the Romero Head.
