  1. Frantik DM 3: MAP19: DAMMED AGAIN

     

    This is a new layout - a sequel of sorts to FDM1's MAP15, 'DAMMED'.

     

    It's like if the Hoover Dam and a jungle-gym combined somehow - that's the closest I can describe it. Jump pads were important in this layout, due to the verticality. I set them up to give just enough thrust to reach each platform - it's quite easy to get around in this level, all things considered.

     

    The top 4 platforms lead to a blue armor - it's a long ways down if you miss it! It's kind of like a 'leapfrog' thing I've got going on up top. Should be hectic I hope.

     

    Gonna finish this up tomorrow - geometry is like 90% done.

  2. I have acquired a working microphone.

     

    Seriously considering doing some laidback live mapping streams - basically making a DM map from scratch, while chatting w/ people...

     

    I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous a little bit - but I'm sure that'd iron out as we went along.

     

    Might not happen for a little while, I want to make sure everything is in order first - as well as actually learning how to stream 'correctly'. You know, all the little details.

     

    Could be fun. Would be cool to take requests from people, too! I can usually blast out a map in 3-5 hours' time - a bit faster if I'm in 'speedmapping mode'.

     

    I've done 1 stream before, but I had no microphone, and it was more of a random test than anything else.

     

    So yeah, something I'm thinking about. Might make things more fun.

     

    Like I said, I know nothing about streaming, really. So I'm going to have to do a crash-course first.

     

    I'll keep you all updated, but it might not be for a while still.

  3. Frantik DM 3: MAP18: FORGOTTEN FACTORY: The third level of the 'electricity' episode is complete! The pincer cranes were a bit tricky to get right, but I'm happy w/ them now. I'm glad to have found a home for my 3D floors forklift! I'm probably going to make another hell level next - possibly some kind of rundown town... :D

  5. I totally agree w/ the above statement, continuing on w/ the comic book hero thing - this is the same reason why I dislike Superman as a hero. Yeah, there's nothing intimidating or imposing, if you are the imposing intimidating thing. I've always felt like the New Doom games portrayed the enemies as too weak - I never felt threatened, if that makes sense. Same w/ the majority of Superman's foes. I just dislike games where you're the badass - I prefer my opposition to be 'badass'. If that makes sense. But yeah, could not agree more - and this is probably why I could never get too immersed in Doom post D3:RoE...

    This is coming along pretty good, I think. The pincer cranes were a tiny bit tricky, but I think I've got roughly the look I want now!

    90% of the geometry is complete.

     

    Just texturing, lighting, and a bit more detail left!

  8. I've made a forklift out of 100+ 3D floors! It was quite annoying to do, but I really wanted to practice. This forklift design will be in MAP18 of my upcoming Frantik DM 3 project. Thinking of calling the map 'Forgotten Factory'... :D

  11. Thinking up something new.

     

    A factory.

     

    Overhead pincer cranes, conveyor belts? Crates / boxes? Rust? Warning stripes? An incinerator?

     

    Something like that.

     

    Maybe a large central atrium where one can jump across pincer cranes holding boxes?

     

    Maybe if I go completely insane, I might try to make a 3D floor forklift...

    I can't seem to find a 3D floor layout I'm happy w/ right now - I've got a setup where I make a five point star on a pole, and then sequentially 'layer' the 3D floor fronds diagonally downward - it's hard to explain.

     

    They looked way too simplistic for me, and kind of detracted from the look I was going for on this map.

     

    I'd rather just not have them for the time being, then have them look shoddy.

     

    The island level is complete! I will be posting screenshots in the main thread shortly.

  14. I've working on making 3D floor palm trees right now - mainly for my island level in FDM3.

    The beginning of the second nature level. A lonely island in the middle of a sea.

     

    I'm planning rock outcroppings, some decayed buildings - I'll add some trees, some watering holes, some raised grassy areas...

  19. Frantik DM 3: MAP11: JUNGLE CANOPY: Finally! I've finished the first map of my 'nature' episode! I'm going to be starting the second nature level today. I'm thinking of making a small deserted island in the middle of an 'infinite' ocean. 21/32 levels complete. :D

    I'm glad this is coming together correctly. This was the only map I was 'worried' about...

  22. Frantik DM 3: MAP11: Jungle Canopy:

     

    I've got the nature episode started now!

     

    Getting the 3D floor mushrooms to work correctly under the 3D floor tree canopy has proven difficult, but I think I've got it to work!

    This level is going to be essentially 2 main floors - a high jungle canopy floor, paired w/ a lower dark jungle floor.

     

    Lots of ideas for this - teleporters and jump pads will likely be heavily utilized, as it will be hard to gain verticality otherwise.

     

    I have a bunch of other 3D floor flora objects planned - I'll have to see what happens!

  23. Frantik DM 3: MAP28: Graverobbers: The third level of the hell episode is complete! This level is based around control of the central jump pad - as it is used to reach the upper levels of the map. A somewhat tricky lunge from the jump pad will allow you to land on a railgun, or a blue armor, depending on your trajectory. 20/32 levels complete. :D

    MAP28 is almost done. Just a bit of item placement and balancing / spawn-balancing to do.

  25. I'm really digging the open coffin, as well as the general palatial vibe. Looking good. The darker colors you picked work well. :)
