How did you find out how to defeat the Icon of Sin?
Arrowhead replied to DavidN's topic in Doom General
My dad actually told me - only after I tried it multiple times myself w/ no luck... I think I was 8 or 9 when I beat Doom 2 for the first time - only on ITYTD though, lol -
@northivanastan Sounds like the name of a fictional central Asian country. idk :)

You Get 2 Million Dollars But you Can Never Play Doom Again
Arrowhead replied to Dubbag's topic in Doom General
I personally think I'd get more personal enjoyment from Doom over the 2 million dollars... I'd have to pass on the money. What the hell would I spend it on anyway? Like @Lol 6 said "I have always been a very simple person". I feel I am a similar way. -
Definitely liked this one. A hot spring is actually quite a unique location for a doom WAD. I don't think I've ever seen a hot spring map until now. The red rock texture and the green bricks surprisingly go well together, whenever I've tried using these two together, I always thought they clashed - but the texturing looks great here. I don't usually like hot starts, but the arachnotron hot start really works here, makes you need to run around and get some in-fighting going / fight for your ammo right off the bat - I appreciate that kind of encounter design. I felt that maybe the Cybie room was a little too small - but I was still able to get 'em. Overall, I enjoyed your more 'industrial' endeavors a little bit more aesthetically, but this was by no means a bad map to look at. I also appreciated the integration of all weapons, something not seen in many smaller size maps. I UV max'd it in just over 3:30 - which isn't a problem btw, you know I like small maps - but it kind of left me wishing it was a bit longer, as I was enjoying it quite a bit! Maybe you'll return to the hot springs motif at some point? :) Keep up the great work bud, can't wait to see more from your megaWAD project too!

I know some Quebecois French, but not a lot. I took it from Grade 1 to my senior year. This thread makes me think I should probably pick it up again at some point.

Arrowhead12's WADs - ***ACE-1.wad - NOW ON IDGAMES***
Arrowhead replied to Arrowhead's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Part 2 of 2: Special thanks to @Jimmy @Immorpher @pcorf and Kyle Dobson for allowing their music to be reused in other projects. :) Without the above playtesters and their feedback, (see first post) I probably wouldn't have made it very far at all. Thanks for your time. I'm working on a large deathmatch priject now, I'll be sure to update as the process goes on. -
Arrowhead12's WADs - ***ACE-1.wad - NOW ON IDGAMES***
Arrowhead replied to Arrowhead's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Part 1 of 2: (stupid formatting wouldn't let me enter text after all the '@s' lol) 'ACE-1.wad' is now on idgames! ACE-1 stands for 'Arrowhead Compilation Episode 1'. /idgames . Or you can direct download here: ACE-1.7z Alright, I updated the things I stated I was going to update, with 2 small exceptions. I decided to keep the dead 'eye switches' in the flesh tunnel in Gallows, and I decided to also not alter the final chaingunner ambush. I felt it was too cramped to add another set of bars, to delay the player. All difficulties have been implemented. I think I was able to fix the secret wall in Refinery, too. I created par times, but completely spaced out, and forgot to add them to the MAPINFO lump, lol. I knew I'd forget something in my first upload, haha. I'll likely just send an updated version out to the archive in a few days' time. Everything else is otherwise A-Ok, though. :) Special thanks to playtesters: @Orcsbreath @Biodegradable @Karl515 @Krenium @Dubbag @eirc @PeceMan @Suitepee @thelazyqdude -
Gonna have to be "The Ultimate Doom" for me!

A weird bug in Doom95 i remember from my childhood (Now recreated!)
Arrowhead replied to Muusi's topic in Doom General
Sorry, must have missed it. I stand corrected though, seems as if you did remember this correctly in the end! Very very weird. I have no idea what could possibly be causing that. This has just become a very interesting thread... :) -
A weird bug in Doom95 i remember from my childhood (Now recreated!)
Arrowhead replied to Muusi's topic in Doom General
The only bug I ever recalled from the version of Doom95 I had, was that it would crash for some reason whenever opening the blue doors in map 3 of doom2... Still don't know why it happened, but it always did, without fail. A little windows message would pop up with some error on it, (I don't remember of course, now, its been like 2 decades...) and then it would crash to desktop. I haven't been able to get it to repeat with the versions that are around now. But yeah, I've never had this weird zombie thing happen - that is, if your memory is 100% correct still, I could be a little bit off with my memory too, lol. -
You ever read 'Racing the Beam'? Your racing the laser comment reminded me of it. Great book on all the quirks and misery involved in the 2600 coding process. Also, the stuff that the Atari community can make w/ homebrew now, is CRAZY. But I digress, don't want to clutter up the thread w/ Atari nonsense haha :)

I heard that 6502 assembly is one of the harder things to program in - not to mention the EXTREMELY limited memory!! And yes, a temple OS port of Doom would be an incredible project - I'm assuming it would use temple OS's extremely limited color palette, right? That would look ... interesting... Here's my Hong Kong 'light-sixer', unrelated to the topic at hand, just couldn't resist. I was actually really a bit annoyed when I learned that the Atari 2600 'version' of Doom was a hoax, lol. Yes, I know my cord habits are horrific haha

I'd love to see Doom ported to Brainfuck, but I doubt that'll ever happen - or if its even possible? Sure would take a LOT of time... Not a programmer btw... I know Brainfuck is just a goofy esoteric language, I don't actually think anybody's insane enough to try something like this. Its apparently turing complete though, so does that at least mean it would be possible theoretically? I'm naive to this stuff, but once I heard of this language, I immediately was curious if anybody has even tried making a VERY basic game w/ it. Doom would probably be far too hard of an endeavor to port, but maybe Pong? lol

Help w/ Combining Seperate WADs Using Same Texture Pack
Arrowhead replied to Arrowhead's question in Editing Questions
Okay, I just tried this method, and ended up w/ the same issue. It seems like all the iwad textures show up, (flats and wall textures), but only the flats from the otex1.1 textures show up. I looked in both PNAMES and TEXTURE1 and the new graphics showed up there, but when I load the newly combined WAD - I get the same issue. So I experimented a little bit, I took the textures2 and pnames lump from otex1.1, and tried to add everything to that - this worked, and everything showed up in the sourceport, but I was getting tons of 'unknown patch' 'unknown texture' errors. So I ran maintenance again, and it seems to have taken care of the issue. I now have a 3 -wad pack that seems to be working 'right'. Would someone be able to check and see if this looks okay now? I don't want to think I have this sorted, only to run into a huge problem later. Very grateful to @Sluggard for getting me on the right track. Here's the 'new' WAD: DMTEST.7z Edit: Okay, so I did notice one issue - one of the Otex1.1 concrete textures wouldn't render - I ended up just changing it to a different one, and that seems to have worked. -

Machine Shop: A map from my upcoming MegaWAD!
Arrowhead replied to Alfwin's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Okay, I had a ton of fun - if the megaWAD is anything like this level, then I'll be sure to love it. The 2 archie encounter was very tense, but I really liked it - I didn't see the invuln right away, which made for some very panicked gameplay, haha. I had a blast though, looking forward to seeing the rest of this project. I am a huge fan of industrial landscapes - the sky you chose is pretty awesome too. Yeah, keep it up bud, I'll be sure to play whatever you're putting out! :) -
Help w/ Combining Seperate WADs Using Same Texture Pack
Arrowhead posted a question in Editing Questions
Hello again! I am trying to combine 3 separate doom2 format maps that use Otex1.1 together. The map markers are 1,2, and 3. All 3 maps use some of the Otex1.1 textures. I was able to remove the excess flats/textures/patches via Slade's maintenance tool - no problem there, but now I can't figure out how to get these to 'combine' together into 1 single WAD. Every time I've tried it has resulted in the textures not showing up in the sourceport. I know how to combine vanilla WADs together - stuff without custom textures, (you just line up the maps' data in a row in Slade) but I cannot find a tutorial or explanation on how to combine 3 different WADs that use the same texture pack. I tried looking at Eviternity in Slade, but that ended up being more confusing than helpful. I have tried the 'save into' option in Doombuilder X / GZDOOMBBF, but no luck. I have also tried using exl's WADMerge tool -but the same results... I know I'm doing something wrong, (of course) but I can't figure out what. The WADs load the custom textures just fine individually - I just can't find a way to get them to work as a '3-pack'. WADs are included below, if that'll help anybody. I really want to figure this out, so that I never have to figure it out again. :) DM1FINAL.7z DM2FINAL.7z DM3FINAL.7z Thanks for any and all help, in advance! -
I haven't watched the video that was linked, (so Idk if this is mentioned) but I know in Doom Builder 2, if you select a sector, and hit 'shift + D' it'll open a dialogue to create a door. Its an easy shortcut to quickly make doors.
