OK, thanks for the images. In the demo I downloaded, you killed the first chaingunner with a rocket, and then you're dead before you get a second shot off.

SIGIL E3M5 Stroller in 5:47 sig5strx547.zip I'm reposting because my I copied my .bat file to dsda-doom 0.25.2 folder and forgot to update the link from 0.23.0 to 0.25.2. The version in the archive is correct, but my text file isn't. Maybe it's not a big deal, but having the wrong info in the text file bugs me.

Do you ever do runs of maps/runs you don't like?
taedev replied to Andrea Rovenski's topic in Other Demos & Discussion
Yes, I did a run I didn't like: Christmas Cheer from the Chillzone map 33 stroller. I liked the map, but not the run. I knew it was possible and I wanted to see it done, and no one else was going to do it. For the most part, the map better be good, or an IWAD tablefill. I don't have all the time in the world to play games I don't like. I might do some maps I'm lukewarm on, just because they're easier and the training will help me do better on harder maps I do like. -
Hi,
I sometimes record videos from Twitch streams for my entertainment later, and I heard you mention that you didn't post all of Down the Drain on Youtube. I don't have all of it, but I have some clips. If you want any, I can try to figure out how to send them to you.

I tablefill because it's a way to get better without having to compete with some super-optimized run. Now I've gotten good enough than I can compete with some pretty good runs, but I still want to tablefill because it's a fun puzzle. Sometimes I try to optimize it, but usually just an exit is good enough (since the runs I choose tend to be quite hard). I may try to optimize it, because there are some hard runs that I like. Usually I want people to beat it, but sometimes I don't, and it depends on the run again. They're going to do what they want, though. I would like to have a crown, but tablefilling has its own benefit. When I tablefill, I do my own routing. It's a puzzle I can solve on my own, and the run is all mine. Having a run that's all mine can be better than a crown.

There might be a few players who could use an email setup. I registered to DW with an unusual email and could not post, and didn't know why. There was no way to contact anyone, so I looked around Youtube and Twitch for someone to contact, but there's no *contact info* to see if you're not logged in. I won't go on Discord. Finally I contacted a person who had an email in their run - who was also the person whose run I was competing with. He explained why I couldn't post on DW. If I could not have found someone with an email, I would have given up on DW, and just posted my runs on Odysee. There would be fewer runs, and with no one to comment on or compete with my runs, they would be lower quality. I would be my own one-person DW and keep posting demos quietly. It might be worth getting an email setup. Maybe even I could do it, theoretically. But it sounds like a lot of unpaid work, less fun than speedrunning. *edit* for clarity. I can see a lot when I'm not logged in - just not a way to contact people.

SIGIL E3M5 Stroller in 5:47 sig5strx547.zip https://odysee.com/@taedev:2/doom_sigil_e5m5_strtas_547 *edited to add: This map has three gaps that I have to jump over at stroller speed, and the first one was hard because I needed enemies to help. I stood on top of a pinky while a shotgunner shot at me (as much as you can with infinite heights). I have no idea if this is useful for anyone, but it's unusual for me so I'd like to point it out.

Also checked my records and Valiant map 07 Tyson by @Petyan was a 2022 run. It was my first intro to Petya's work and it was fascinating.

Some were already mentioned, but I like them enough to mention them again. I am most impressed by Tysons that require an unusual way of thinking about the map. Two Tysons: Eviternity map 26 and Ancient Aliens map 28 by @Petyan The most entertaining streams for me to watch. Plutonia map 30 Tyson in 1 hour 22 minutes by @4shockblast (Youtube) Doom II UV-Max D2ALL in 1 hour and 13 minutes and E1M7 UV-Max and respawn in 2:14 and 2:05 by @Looper TNT Episode 1 NM100s in 38 minutes (Youtube) and Ancient Aliens map 28 NM100S in 57s (Youtube) by @JCD All Scythe X ILS in NM100s, with maps 08 and 09 being quite hard by @megasphere308 (Youtube) Also E4M1 Tysons (non-TAS) (Youtube) and (TAS) (Youtube), because I like tough and unusual Tysons. Doom II UV-Speed D2ALL (TAS) in 9:47 by @almostmatt1 (Youtube) Sunder IL UV-Max records (non-TAS) by @ZeroMaster010 (Youtube) Map 12 was the first one of 2022. I was going to mention his TAS of Nuts, but I didn't realize it was so old (2021). Sunlust map 08 and map 05 UV-Max in 5:04 and 2:28 by @skogsto09 (Youtube) He grinded map 05 for months, but personally I'm most impressed by the map 08 run. Haste map 10 UV-Max in 4:33 by @PrBoomerJuice (Youtube) Also @Jizzwardo for drawing my attention to the run and PrBoomerJuice for improving on it. Going Down map 32 UV-Max in 2:17 by @mhrz For taking the unusual route of jumping off the roof. I'm sure I was impressed by more runs, but this post is taking some time to write already.

I'm OK at both (not anywhere near 4shock or Rocky's level), and I would say yes in my case, but it would be different for someone who does super high quality TASes. I didn't want to redo my E3M6 stroller TAS for a while, because I thought if I spent hundreds or thousands of attempts on a TAS, those attempts may have been better spent on a successful non-TAS. If I do a TAS and a non-TAS, the thought of doubling my work can be tiring. When I have to grind hundreds/thousands of attempts on some section, I increase my TAS speed so that it's very close to game speed or at it. It feels the same as grinding a non-TAS, and grinding one would burn me out on the other. If I wanted super high quality TAS precision, doing those same attempts at slow speed would be agonizing, and a TAS might burn me out in a way that a non-TAS wouldn't.

Bring Collector back (or what new categories do you want to see?)
taedev replied to Decay's topic in Other Demos & Discussion
I might like to see the Other category organized differently, like splitting it into 'Skills 0-3' category, 'Incompatible' category, and 'Other'. I don't think there's a point to adding 'Tank.' As much as I like strollers, it's not possible to finish my favorite level The Chasm on stroller, with all kills and secrets (running is required). Stroller is already a restrictive category, and Tank is too restrictive to be a separate category. -
That's exactly it, I think. Take a break. I get tired of doing a particular demo, and I take a break from it. Months later, I go back to it and do better than ever. Not naming names, but I think that's true for a lot of people. Take a break, and when you get back to it, you may be rusty at first, but then you do better than ever. With that said, I'm relatively new to demo recording (I almost said 'speedrunning', but most of my runs are strollers. Sometimes it feels weird calling a stroller a 'speedrun'). Also, I have a lot of hobbies that I just stopped, and I regret leaving tons of unfinished projects that I can't publish. I'm trying to finish what I start now, so the break I take shouldn't be more than a few months. As far as not knowing what to do with your free time if you're not doing a run, I don't think I'm a good person to offer advice about that. I have plenty of other non-speedrunning things to do, but I still get too fixated on my latest hobby.

; and CTRL for forward and backward. I taught myself keyboard-only in 2020, and tried WASD and mouse later when I found Doom communities. I didn't like it and went back to keyboard-only. When I found out that I could use a trackball instead of my little mouse, I tried switching again. This time I made my own custom keybinds, somewhat similar to the default keyboard-only controls, to make the switch easier. If I have problems lately, I blame my skill and not my keybinds.
