Arise ye tarnished! Ye dead who yet live! After a uh... Inexcusable hiatus from this (caused primarily by my personal laziness), I've returned more seasoned than I was when I started this. So, going back to the patch notes format I once used for this: Added a myhouse.wad entry, for obvious reasons Added entries for Cyriak, Ribbiks, Skillsaw, Erik Alm, and Jimmy Added some entries related to the Doom Alpha, curtesy of @NiGHTS108 Added entries for 7869.wad, Atomic Attack, and a few others Rearranged quite a number of entries (that I didn't keep track of... Oops...) Removed the categories for now For more elaboration, they might return in the finished iceberg, but I removed them because I found the categories I set up to be a bit too limiting currently. As always, I'm accepting recommendations for new entries, apologies if this wasn't substantial enough of an update to be worth a necro ^^

It's a reference to the Metallica song of the same name, primarily because i'm using the midi version of it for the main menu, first level, and last level (MAP07) Why? It's my favorite Metallica song :p I am avoiding the name Shub-Niggurath with this, especially in the death messages, especially because well... We all know Lovecraft's opinions on people who weren't white anglo-saxon protestants.

I woke up at 1:00 AM and decided that a productive use of my time would be to write ZDoom obituaries for the monsters in Call of Ktulu

my fickle muse struck me once more and i got a burst of inspiration for a 7 map set Title Screen: MAP01: Innsmouth (Complete) MAP02 is currently what I'm working on, will post more details once I get it in a presentable shape.

probably 45% done at this point but i'm working on finishing my first proper map for public release, nothing impressive but whateves :p

My personal stance on the matter is that classic misaligned texture secrets should be tagged as secrets while secrets that require a lot more effort to access shouldn't be. Probably a lukewarm take, but IMO it rewards more casual players by making them feel satisfied that they found a secret hiding in plain sight, and it rewards more dedicated players with better rewards for uncovering more hidden secrets.

Already included under the "Ghouls Forest 3 Yurei Photos" entry Thanks for the input about Doomseeker, I'll be honest I haven't really ever used Zandronum so I never knew that and thought it was a bit more obscure than it was. Some of these are already added, like Doomkid and Lilith, but I'll consider adding more community members. Work on the iceberg has taken quite a bit of a backseat, I've gotten back into the swing of actually making doom maps and as a result this isn't all too high on my priority list.

Err quick addendum, without giving away potentially private information, it was requested of me to remove a certain drama entry due to a potentially "explosive" outcome. I saw no reason not to comply, so here we are lol.

1. I apologize for my absence from this thread and 2. I quite like this idea and format for icebergs, I've given it some thought and while I'd like to sort each tier based on a specific concept or idea, I also like the idea of having it all organized based on obscurity. The fun of iceberg charts to me is the obscurity, especially about topics I'm passionate about and quite enjoy, such as Doom. At the end of the day, an iceberg chart isn't really educational, it's a rabbit hole of trivia and facts. I do think some entries maybe do need to be consolidated together, this is why, for example, I added "games built on GZDoom" instead of listing out individual games like Hedon, Total Chaos, etc.

My baseline for well known is "if I mention it to someone who isn't active in the doom community, but has played a few mods or watched a 2-3 youtube videos, they'd know" That's why I've made sure to fill the at doom's gate tier with very common topics/memes and famous mods

I added the mussolini thing due to its presence as a common rumor in the community. It's possible on the site im using to make this to add little notes that pop up whenever you hover over an entry, and I'm thinking of adding a note to the mussolini entry that it's fake, along with clarification. I just thought it was necessary to include on the iceberg due to it being a common piece of ""trivia"" shared around about Doom Also thank you very much for these suggestions! And don't worry, no offense taken, I appreciate the input.

personally the way im doing it is if a topic is disturbing, but well known, and openly talked about, it won't be on the surface. if it's well known, but not openly talked about, it's in the middle, and if it's neither, it's at the bottom. Also thank you all for your suggestions! I'm adding to the iceberg as (probably) you're reading this. To be fair I'm not exactly ranking these based off infamy or how disturbing they are but how well known they are, for example Tier 1 is things generally known and Tier 3 is things that only people who regularly play doom mods would probably know about. These aren't the only tiers btw, these are just the ones that (currently) have entries

LINK: https://icebergcharts.com/i/Doom_Community I'm a huge fan of iceberg charts, and I think they can be a really fun way to explore information revolving around a certain topic, video game, movie, etc. I personally wasn't really satisfied with the "disturbing" doom iceberg covered by youtubers such as Midnight, particularly due to the fact they seem more focused on rumors rather than trivia, interesting facts, and cool creations surrounding, well, Doom! As such, I've taken it upon myself to start work on a Doom iceberg focused on the community, particularly modding, memes, and everything in between, and I thought what better place to ask for entries than Doomworld, a forum dedicated to well, Doom. Here's a preview of the first three or so levels, keep in mind this is a HEAVY work in progress, and entries are bound to be moved up and down and changed category. I should also note that, on the site that this is going to be published to, almost every entry (should) have a link. P.s. these are ranked based on obscurity! The top level being things those with only a passing knowledge of the Doom community would most likely know about P.p.s due to some confusion in the thread I want to clarify and stress that this iceberg is not finished, and that these are not all of the entries or layers. There are more layers. These are just the ones that I've deemed to be in somewhat of a presentable condition.
