  1. That means a lot to me Cammy, thank you. I still have long term plans to continue trying to contribute to this community.. Hopefully someone is willing and able to make a great finished product out of these parts we have here :)
  2. Hey friends, it's with much regret that I think I may need to pull out of the leadership position for this CP. I've been debating whether or not to do this the last two months roughly, but unfortunately I think it'll be the best way to guarantee this project gets released in a timely manner. Resigning is made harder by the fact that the current submissions look badass, and t.v. having made the excellent Zappa-inspired title screen and texture improvements, new status bar, etc found here..: dwa30m1-gfx.zip (Seriously good stuff..) This year has been one of the busier years of my life, and I'm taking on more responsibilities soon which will only make my Doom modding time/energy even thinner. I don't want other people's work to be left in limbo as a result of my extremely infrequent visits these days!! I'm not permanently retiring, to be clear - this isn't some bullshitty "goodbye" post - I just wish I had the foresight to admit to myself I wouldn't have time to run Doom projects this year.. UGH. Again, I'm very sorry to everyone who has submitted or signed up for this rug-pull maneuver.. :( I'm really hoping that someone experienced & eager might be willing to take up the challenge!
  3. I have this theory that he's been trying to destroy it since day one, but with just enough plausible deniability. This is a fairly common theory though right? (EDIT: Just looked back through the thread, and yeah, it's common enough.) Maybe I'm just a conspiracy loon, but uh.. The dude seems to be driven largely by spite. He's proven time and time again that he gets really, really salty when criticized and there was a huge swath of Twitter basically dedicated to criticizing him (rightly, imo). He actually went out of his way to get a self-proclaimed nobody who criticized Tesla fired from their job by calling their boss, which is insanely petty for someone with so much wealth and influence. Furthermore, he's pissed off that Twitter politics "brainwashed" one of his kids (AKA they wanted to dissociate from their lunatic father). He knows he can tank a business worth billions and still have a golden parachute no matter what, so why not? This whole charging for Twitter access thing just further goes along with my conspiracy. He wants it dead and bought it with the express intention of doing so. If that is NOT the case, he is possibly the worst businessman of all time (Twitter has lost approx. 66% of its value) and is experiencing intense delusions, but I don't think he's actually that stupid. In short.. IT'S A WORK!
  4. A definitive rule list always leads to dickheads lawyering, which I think is why little progress has been made on a FAQ. It's pretty much down to "behave reasonably".. BUT I'll admit there's some that aren't obvious which probably should be, such as "don't make contentless / low effort / lazy meme" posts (unless it's funny - but it usually isn't). That's just a decorum thing though, you're not gonna get banned for posting the occasional meme or whatever!
  5. We should give America an honorary Cacoward for bringing real life closer to Deathmatch with each passing day. All those hours in DWANGO servers are gonna pay off soon!!
  6. This is perpendicular to the thrust of the thread, but DOOM32.exe effectively usurps Doom2Plus for those who want to play limit removing stuff in DOS. If it's not mentioned on Doom2p's DoomWiki page, I might go ahead and rectify that shortly..
  7. This is what I do as well. There's a great amount of contemporary rock/metal there in the form of Guitar Pro tabs and Power Tabs. If people can't find Guitar Pro 5 online I usually tell them to use TuxGuitar for conversion. Great way to expand your MIDI selection for Doom maps!
  8. I think it's good to take breaks, or at least have "down" periods when it comes to Doom. It ensures the love never dies or becomes a chore. This year has been my biggest "Doom off time" since 2010/11. My addiction to mapping peaked from 2018 to 2022 after many years of doing it, and now my mapping is at a trough.. I think it's only because I have so much going on in my life this year though - I just don't have the spare "mental room" for Doom and project management and stuff that I usually would.. This is why I've been dragging ass on Dwango30 a bit. I started it because I really want to be in the headspace for it, and hell, it's gonna be Doom's 30th come December - but in earlier years the project would have been about done by now! Just focused on helping my olds get their house fixed up for sale/downsizing, while also "un-dilapidating" a run-down house I recently bought, since looking down the barrel of not having a home was making me shit my britches a lil at this point in my life.
  9. I think it's mostly because Doom 2 development and bugfixes/updates versions for Doom 1were being worked on at the same time all the way from the beginning of Doom 2's development. I think version 1.8, and the specific version of 1.9 used for Shareware Doom, Registered, and Doom 2 was meant to be a final "unified" version - but then Ultimate Doom happened, then Final Doom also had two variants released, so in the end there were a bunch of slightly-different versions even of 1.9. So 1.8 was kinda meant to be the "final", at one point.
  10. A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to have a little vacation with the beautiful @Snaxalotl :) We had a damn good time, and now she's well on her way to creating dark, evil sounding music using actual instruments! ... (That 5 string bass kicks ass btw)

  13. Say some stupid shit like this again and I'll give you a month off to go do some grass-touching of your own.
  14. You can share zip files, no problem!
  15. I'm only just now seeing this - please do submit any fixes or updates if you'd like, this wad is not quite in its final form yet (though, the current version I will ensure is always preserved as I know some people have already recorded demos for it.) Thanks so much netcurse, glad you mostly enjoyed it! Awesome, thank you for making this.
  16. While I think this graph is accurate in that 1994-1996 were Doom's heyday in raw numbers, I think it's worth mentioning that less than half of wads ever publicly released - probably substantially less - are/were on idgames. There's a metric ton of DM-only wads, gameplay mods, and all kinds of other stuff for ZDoom and the multiplayer Doom ports (and several other long-forgotten ports like Doom Legacy and such) that were never uploaded to idgames, as well as a bunch of other wad hosting/general file hosting sites where people uploaded and released wads. Oblacek, Best-Ever, TSPG, WadArchive and a whole bunch of others just had so many wads that were never backed up, or are still out there, but not on the archive. With all that said, I still think the trend shown by that graph is fairly accurate in terms of "Doom's popularity per each year", aside from that big 2005 spike, as deathz0r explained. I just had to mention that so much more content was being made than that graph reflects! I think it's safe to say Doom 4, Doom Eternal, and big mods over the years like Brutal Doom, MyHouse and others have brought in a stream of new players, but in terms of content being made and released, there was never anything even close to a low point, at least in the realm of single-player Doom. 2002 being the absolute nadir makes sense, and even then there was an active pulse.
  17. each copy of Doom 64 is NOT personalised (Just clarifying for any onlookers since this person is not willing to share a video or elaborate further. The game Just Works.)
  18. I've been out of town :) Also I wanted to give people a little extra time to submit. I'm going to tag everyone who hasn't submitted soon and make sure they still intend to map - and if not, open their slots back up!
  19. If you take composing seriously, I urge you to look up the following: modes, particularised scales, and accidentals. The harmonies in e2m4 are perfectly “valid” dissonant scales which sound off-putting and evil, exactly as they were intended. It’s fine to have the opinion that it’s a bad song, but it objectively breaks zero rules of western music theory. As far as my opinion goes: every iwad midi other than Countdown to Death and In The Dark range from decent to kick-ass. I’m surprised such boring, droning, headache-inducing tunes aren’t at the top of the list. (Seriously - Hiding the Secrets?? Shawn’s Got the Shotgun?! Did you all break your hearing aids or somethin’?!)
  20. Hey peoples, just wanted to say I’ve been overseas the last few days and will be for another week-ish yet. I’m not ignoring anyone I swear! c:

  21. Man, that map looks great, and you complimented the sky SO well - I really like it!
  22. I'm so glad to have the un-MUS'd version of these - thanks so much @The Almighty Egg and @kschilder. Really glad the original dates got preserved too. Would possibly be a waste of time since we know the dates anyway, but a tool like AttributeChanger could be used to set them back if someone wanted to do that. (God damn I LOVE the e1m9 midi in Heretic and the Bright Crucible midi in Hexen.. Hell, I love the whole soundtrack for both games)
