Does the map move in relation to the player or vice versa in Doom?
Doomkid replied to jmpt16's topic in Doom General
The map stays still and the player (and other actors) move around within it. You can confirm this by checking the coordinates of the player in the automap in any ports that allow you to see that info -
You've got it, NieMaMordy! @Vladguy, @OpenRift, @Peccatum Mihzamiz : Thanks so much for the submissions! I still need to add @t.v.'s excellent assets to the resource pack, but rest assured a compilation with all submissions so far IS on the way. I didn't realize this when I set the submission date initially, but I'm going to be out of town from Aug 1st to Aug 10th, so please feel free to submit your map any time in that timeframe. Once I'm back I'll have more time to finish up my second map as well. Keep up the great work!

"OCTATE" - My first map (split drama by CittyKat123)
Doomkid replied to Vulpes Inculta's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Every person banned from DW creates false narratives as to why they’re banned so proof is necessary at this stage. I also think there’s a difference between actively being hostile to other forum users using alt accounts, and posting a mod. The circumstances frankly have nothing in common. (Not to mention, a real home address VS a proxy IP that was only matched due to a slip up? Come on. You’re gonna pull a muscle reaching so hard man) Either way I’ve removed the proof. It wouldn’t stop liars from lying about how things went down anyway. For anyone reading this after the fact, dasho is a total asshole, that’s the real reason he’s speaking up. Here’s his opinion about Dr Sleep’s son posting a map: If I found out that my father had been cucked, I don't think the first thing that would come to mind is to dive into the hobbies of the guy who did it and post a map on DoomWorld for sweet upvotes. Swell guy to be taking moderation notes from, eh?- 4 replies

"OCTATE" - My first map (split drama by CittyKat123)
Doomkid replied to Vulpes Inculta's topic in WAD Releases & Development
And who exactly are you? (proof this was a CittyKat alt goes here) ..Oh, just some turd. Byebye! Here’s the original post, for posterity: Didn't play it, but I gotta say those screenshots look ugly. Why the hell does that metal structure on the first screenshot has BLOOD on it? Why the sewer bricks use a hexogonal flat texture? Why the hell that thing in the ceiling uses a DOORTRAK texture and why on Earth did you use a grassy dirt flat for those sewer bricks? Hot damn, I was considering playing this seeing how much attention this map got, but after seeing the screenshots I ain't touching this turd with a 10ft pole! As a final note this moron has openly stated their disdain for DW multiple times, so really, this is doing him a favor.- 4 replies

Putting your own watermark on someone else's work? That's double scummy. No plagiarism.

Furries are not hard to defeat. Although that's not something I generally want to do, if we are put in the arena, I think I have it down pat. 3/10 -
Do you think GZDoom should have texture filtering on by default?

Please raccomend to me vanilla megawads released in recent years.
Doomkid replied to Nikoka's topic in Doom General
4 episodes? So.. only FULL megawads for Doom 1 specifically? Well, that's a very very limited pool, but Stickney still fits into that. As a tip, megawads are 15 or more maps, and 99% of them are for Doom 2 (thus lacking distinct episode selections). Though admittedly I did sneak some great episodes (4 or more maps) in the mix. The only one on my list that's LR is Boomer, all the rest are compatible with vanilla DOS Doom and certainly considered on the more simple/traditional side by modern standards. Some use DeHackEd though, but PrBoom should have no issues there. What you are looking for are "Full vanilla megawads for Doom 1 with no DeHackEd" specifically, by the sounds. A much more limited pool but people will still find you some options I'm sure! -

Do you think GZDoom should have texture filtering on by default?
Doomkid replied to BeachThunder's topic in Source Ports
Imagine if there was debate on wether or not films originally released in black and white should default to some colorised version on all streaming services. If you had to look up instructions on YT or some shit to even figure out how to view the original B&W version. Maybe I’m alone in this but I would find that extremely bizarre. Surely the “fucked with after the fact” version should be the one I have to do research to figure out how to enable, and not the other way around? I know we’ve gone in circles by now but I can seldom think of another example where a famous piece of art ended up having a fan-altered version take place as the default visual experience the user is given, other than perhaps that painting of Jesus that got altered into a coconut monkey.- 424 replies

Some recent vanilla wads worth a look (not comprehensive but big!) And here’s a few of my vanilla projects from the last few years: All of these work in old versions of PrBoom, so I’m hoping they’ll work for your circumstances and you’ll be able to enjoy em!- 14 replies

Hey everyone, I meant to do this last post, but the new deadline is Aug 1st. I meant to specify a date earlier :) It would be an honour to have a map in here by the man who INVENTED Doom deathmatch!! …Of course, in lieu of that, a map by Tim would be fine I guess. Best of luck to you, and no worries at all bud. Take care. These submissions/screenshots are looking stellar by the way.. Keep up the excellent work people!

Do you think GZDoom should have texture filtering on by default?
Doomkid replied to BeachThunder's topic in Source Ports
Whenever you put a piece of software, art, music etc into the world for public consumption, you are asking someone to spend some of their limited time on this planet engaging with that creation. Time is the most valuable thing we have, so to ignore criticism - especially unanimous criticism - about something intended for public use (as opposed to personal use) seems odd to me. From the user's perspective, I personally feel there's a responsibility to look for good things to say, as well as for things you feel could be better. You're actually doing the creator a disservice by feeling things could be improved upon and not saying so, in the same way you would be by not sharing your appreciation for their work. Thankfully, GZDoom has received praise and accolades abound from not only the various Doom forums, but big time in the Doom YT scene. It's pretty much always suggested as the default way to play the best game ever. There's no higher praise I can think of, really. People need to go about this whole process respectfully no matter what their view is, as far as I'm concerned. No one is saying they hate GZDoom (at least, not the vast majority). You don't get a response like this at all unless people care passionately about it. No one can "force" creators to do anything, but wanting to keep a roundly unpopular setting as the default but also not want to hear what people think of that decision is wanting to have your cake and eat it too.- 424 replies

Do you think GZDoom should have texture filtering on by default?
Doomkid replied to BeachThunder's topic in Source Ports
If your software is publicly available, users are entitled to sharing whatever opinion they have on it - good, bad, or otherwise, so long as it doesn’t get personal or underhanded. It comes with the territory of making literally anything intended for public consumption.- 424 replies

RMG took this shit lower and lower with every step. He started it by talking shit about Snax in the OP of his solo release in a very unnecessary way, he then brought it to the place of insulting her mapping abilities when she bit back at him. Now he’s brought it to the place of making trans suicide “jokes”. Snax was presumably pissed off hence her tone. understandably, since after like 3 weeks of not even posting she got dragged into this shit. Her response was justified imo. None of this shit excuses encouraging suicide by a LONG shot, even “jokingly”, so take it somewhere else RMG. We don’t want that kind of talk here.

Do you think GZDoom should have texture filtering on by default?
Doomkid replied to BeachThunder's topic in Source Ports
I love how incredibly unanimous community opinion is on this. I honestly think there is not one other common opinion THIS one-sided in the realm of Doom. I love that there’s something we can all get behind and other then a few people clearly ‘avin a laff. Allow me to make that ratio 153 to 4 real quick. (For what it’s worth, from the literal nanosecond this became the norm with the port, almost everyone has hated it. Some people even feared younger Doomers would think this stupid shitty blur was part of the game by default. Next minute..)- 424 replies

[MBF21] "Sweet Tremor" (RMG vs Snaxalotl for some reason)
Doomkid replied to Snaxalotl's topic in WAD Releases & Development
I think that would be for the best, and is probably how the thread should have been from square 1. I'll split the drama shortly. EDIT: done.
