If you're making a Doom2 map, you don't have to sacrifice the cool Doom1 textures! Some legend compiled them all into one back in 94: https://doomshack.org/uploads/DOOM1-2.WAD

Under Options, checks out Wads and Wad Download, make sure the directories there line up with your current directories. Also, just to be sure, under Programs you should check your source port directories as well. If everything is pointing to an actual folder, it should work as intended

Bury my Heart Knee-Deep is the first thing that shot into my mind

Some aspects of the community have faded a bit, there used to be enormous Deathmatch and CTF scenes which are smaller today than they once were (but by no means dead). However, where some aspects have taken a back seat, other areas seem stronger than ever.. The output of new levels and mods is astronomical, and on the whole the quality just keeps going up and up, and in addition to that there's a pretty booming Classic Doom scene on YouTube right now which brings the community even more outside attention. It's a good era to be a Doomer, though in all honesty there's never been a bad era. Even at it's lowest low, there were still new wads being pumped out constantly and hundreds of active multiplayer servers. I'm very glad to say the community has never had a brush with death, or even come close to it.

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback, this is invaluable to us. Glad you liked the style and felt the modified textures blended well, and also pleased to hear that despite a little bit of difficulty inconsistency it was fun overall. Looking forward to hearing your further thoughts as you play!

I'd suggest opening Doom.wad in Slade3 and seeing how the sprites are made and their sizes and everything. Sprites are generally about 70x70 pixels or so, confined to Doom's 256 color palette and use cyan as the background color for transparency. Looking at some Doom sprites, extracting them and using how they work as a basis will probably be helpful.

Talk With Me, But I Can Only Read Using Google Translate
Doomkid replied to DSC's topic in Everything Else
All of you people who are not native English speakers would probably sound great to my ears, lol. For some reason I’ve always loved the sound of English being spoken by people for whom it isn’t their main tongue. Regardless of their nationality, it gives a lot more “flavour” to this boring-ass overly ubiquitous language. -

DFM: A hypothetical software that could become truth one day
Doomkid replied to Stahp's topic in Doom General
Can’t believe it, but I’ve never even heard this idea touted before despite how much fun DFM would hypothetically be.. Really good idea. Does SFM support sprites? If it does, I think it would actually be pretty easy to export Doom levels as OBJs and import them into SFM along with Doom’s sprites, although I have literally never used SFM myself so don’t quote me on that. -
Several of my projects greatly benefited from your efforts!!

We haven’t really been keeping a changelog, just been reacting to feedback and bug reports as they come in. It’s pretty much been entirely down to fixing tutti frutti and altering the various difficulty settings to make them more thorough. KD’s post above has been taken fully into account between RC2 and RC3 though, there were only minor changes outside of that.

OP: Does the fact that I don't make mods mean I'm a worthless member of the community? Me: Does the fact that I spend my life making Doom mods mean I'm a worthless member of society? If you have any content you've posted that never garnered much response/feedback, let me know and I'll be happy to give it a spin. It's kind of heartbreaking that multiple people feel ostracized somehow. I guess I've attained "somebody" status in the community (pukes in mouth at the thought of community engagement being a popularity contest) but I can say that for the first 5-10 years of my community tenure, basically no one knew who I was. I just kept on pumping out wad after wad and shoving them in the face of every last Doom forum/site/server I could find year after year until it - at a glacial speed - started to garner me some friends and my work some attention. By no means do I think that approach is for everyone.. it could be argued that I've pissed away a lot of valuable time, but I can't think of anything else I'd have rather done. ~~ N O R E G E R T S ! ! 1 ~~

Does anyone unironically use I'm Too Young To Die
Doomkid replied to LudicrousFPS's topic in Doom General
Wads with a lot of meaty baddies, ITYTD can make it fun and casual rather than a gauntlet. On the topic of shameless self promotions I made a mod that halves enemy health just in case double ammo and halved player damage weren't enough!- 91 replies

I thought this was going to be the "opposite" of this, pure MIDI versions of the Buckethead tracks, but I think this is actually better! Really nice covers here!

Anyone got any tips for getting better at Doom?
Doomkid replied to SkullCousin's topic in Doom General
Excellent companion piece for the "pro monster strats" video: Using the BFG well is crucial for many Doom maps! -
Here are some ancient review sites, just for posterity's sake.. Interesting old DM was reviews by Rellik, a one-time regular of the community: https://web.archive.org/web/20040401115620/http://discharge.gginc.org/ Doom reviews for the recreational user, an ancient time capsule of wad reviews: https://www.toolworks.com/doom/ Another old WAD review site from 2005 that seems to be completely abandoned: http://doomwadreview.8m.net/ The "All Time Best Levels" list by Myles Williams, as of 1995-1996. Outdated but useful: http://doomgate.gamers.org/~williams/ All of these are long abandoned, but are both useful for their reviews and interesting as time capsules!

There’s a church map in Dwango20 that breaks similarly in ZDaemon if “allow players to exit the map” is turned off. The exit is a grave you jump into with a type 11 floor. You’ll never die since players aren’t allowed to exit, but there’s no way out once you’re in. Zandronum conversely just seems to treat type 11 sectors as plain old damaging floor sectors when the “no exiting” flag is set, meaning the player will die and can then respawn. I know this is only loosely related, but falling into the grave in that church map while playing on ZD is so #%@?ing frustrating lol

I felt like such a goof when I really started perusing these wads a day after uploading the video.. You’re not alone, I totally missed it until booting DWANGO! for about the 4th time..

This is hilarious. I love it. We need teeny versions of all the most classic maps!
