Redneckerz Posted July 18, 2020 (edited) ... aka ''DeHackEd mods for eloquent people''. @TDRR is an author of several works mostly related to the ZDoom and Zandronum communities. Think about the TDBots or GShadow Resurrected, providing a shadow system for actors under stock ZDoom. But a few years ago TDRR tried his hand at some DeHackEd mods in this thread. They currently reside on a Mediafire link, so i thought: ''Why not put these on /idgames?'' After contacting TDRR about this and offering to put his works on /idgames for the ages, i can now safely present this thread. Index: Brutal Doom Dehacked: ''Weapons from Brutal Doom v19 with the Rifle and Plasma Rifle reloading after releasing the fire button. Compatible with Vanilla Doom and any sourceport that supports .deh files. NOT DEMO-COMPATIBLE!'' These do have smooth animations and they bring a subset of BD to Vanilla. Vanilla Brutal Doom (VBrutal): ''Weapons from Brutal Doom v21 with smooth animations and similar timing, this version has no reload. 100% compatible with Vanilla Doom and any sourceport that supports deh files. NOT DEMO-COMPATIBLE!'' Based off vsmooth.wad by Simon Howard (fraggle).NOTE: The major differences between VBrutal and Brutal Doom DeHackEd are simply that VBrutal is more of a weapon reskin than anything else, and BD-DEH focuses on making it a bit closer to real Brutal Doom (reloading, and other minor changes). VRandomizer (Vanilla Randomizer): ''A randomizer mod for Vanilla Doom. Randomizes most pickups in the game. Weapons have a new weapon crate sprite, ammo has a ammo case sprite, health/armor bonuses got a stimpack sprite, and powerups have the Berserk sprite. The .wad file just provides these graphics, but if you don't want to use it pickups will still be randomized as normal, but the randomization looks a bit... Painful in the eyes without the .wad file. random.deh is for Doom 2 and Final Doom, while randomD1.deh is for Doom 1, removing the SSG. I tried to make it appear in Doom 1 but unfortunately i just got crashes even if i included the SSG graphics :(''NOTE: Vanilla Randomizer should be compatible with the vast majority of .deh mods as long as it's loaded last. Computer Deathmatch 4.0: ''A modified version of fraggle's (Simon Howard) modified version of "The Immortal"'s (Sal Vince) Computer Deathmatch mod. Essentially this is the same mod that makes deathmatch with "bots" (modified monsters to look and act like players) possible on any sourceport that supports .deh files, with a couple changes: Changelog: 4.0 from version 2.0 (by fraggle) Bots don't drop weapons or ammo anymore Bots have much lower pain chance, thus removing the ability to exploit them using the Chaingun Pistol bot, Shotgun bot and Plasma rifle bot all have the same speed (close to the player's running speed) Rocket Launcher bot and Chaingun bot both have the same speed (close to the player's walking speed) Considered things: I have considered adding a Chainsaw and SSG bot, but decided against it because 1. The Chainsaw bot wouldn't do well in DM and 2. The only way to make a SSG bot is make a bot that fires 2 Shotgun shots over the span of 2 tics, which would make it unfairly accurate.'' Deh4T (Death Foretold Dehacked): ''A Doom 2016 weapons mod for any source-port that supports .deh files. With pretty smooth animations and sounds from the PSX version of the game. Plays amazingly well with Doom 64 Doom 2. NOT DEMO-COMPATIBLE!!'' Credits: TDRR for making these mods and for allowing me to put them on /idgames so they are available to a wide audience @fraggle, for vsmooth.wad, and DEH9000, used in several of the mods described above @Sergeant_Mark_IV, for Brutal Doom weapons and mechanics, v19 and v21 which are used here Greg Lewis, for DeHackEd Dennis ''Exl'' Meuwissen for Whacked4 /IDGames maintainers @Bloodshedder and @The Green Herring for their very speedy efforts (Submitting on Friday afternoon and it being on /idgames the same day) Downloads (On/idgames): Brutal Doom DeHackEd Computer Deathmatch 4.0 Deh4T (Death Foretold DeHackEd) Vanilla Brutal Doom VRandomizer (Vanilla Randomizer) Protip: Together with @JadingTsunami's VULD, you can easily make yourself a custom executable using the Brutal Doom weapons or the weaponizer. TheNoob_Gamer Posted July 18, 2020 (edited) Huh, this should have been posted earlier. Anyway nice job, though why not compile all of them into 1 condensed pack? Edited July 18, 2020 by TheNoob_Gamer 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I mean, you linked to the ZDoom thread on June 25 and July 1, so yeah :P 2 minutes ago, TheNoob_Gamer said: Anyway nice job, though why not compile all of them into 1 condensed pack? TDRR wanted these to be seperate when posted on /idgames. I could put up a pack here as a zip since i still have that anyway. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Extended Dehacked was a really neat modding format and not until PrBoom+ implemented it did it get attention from high-profile members. Also, afaik, both BDs focus on bringing BD into vanilla Doom and neither was a reskin, not even the reloadless version. If you really look deep at it, they really are just Vanilla weapons with extra animations and lowered/higher firerate. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Oh, then i got confused with what you meant with ''Huh, this should have been posted earlier''. 58 minutes ago, TheNoob_Gamer said: Also, afaik, both BDs focus on bringing BD into vanilla Doom and neither was a reskin, not even the reloadless version. If you really look deep at it, they really are just Vanilla weapons with extra animations and lowered/higher firerate. Hence its a portion of BD. I can imagine you could add in the different behaviors of the imp (The jumping, etc) equally aswell through DEH 9000 or DeHackEd. Having said that, playing in Vanilla with the BD weapons feels really natural. It really feels like a subset of BD without the excessive gore or anything else, so its great to play on various other WADS. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Spoiler Indeed, though enemy misbehaviors and visual glitches are strongly expected. Fraggle's vsmooth actually rearranged and merged a bunch of states to make room for smooth frames (and demo compatiblity); as you might have noticed. Occasionally you would see an imp dropping down to the left while switching weapons. Having said that, I think I would have no problem porting a bunch of Brutal Doom enemies and weapons into Vanilla (?) Doom, the problem would be the general public's interest in Brutal Doom itself. Also sorry for late reply, I think of responses slow. Btw, would be really neat to have some demonstration screenshots or video/gif footage showcasing the mods' features. These are really underrated gems (especially the randomizer, though it's admittedly flawed) and this post would really benefits more from better illustrations. I was going to add in Lings gif but it was not from any of these. Im a clown with these, feel free to record some gifs and ill add them to the OP :) 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
