Death Bear Posted October 5, 2021 (edited) We’re capping off Spooky Season over at the Pineapple Under the Sea with the sequel to 2020’s Trick and Tear with 18 maps of creeptacular proportions! Take on a custom bestiary of ghoulish monsters, as well as some old favorites, with your boomstick (and a few rockets), and keep them from stealing all of your candy…or your soul. Whichever is more important to you. Maps are ordered by Death Bear for flow, loosely in order of submission. Rules/gimmicks mappers followed are in the original post (SEE BELOW). Silence in the Library – DynamiteKaitorn Spoiler Musty smells of apocryphal texts surround you, the sounds of the cursed echoing through the halls. This should be a quiet place…but only after you’re done with it. Welcome back PUSS veteran DynamiteKaitorn (Heich) in this epic struggle. 4. Hemophilia – Awall Spoiler With only your wits to protect you, you creep alone into uncertainty, hoping to find a way free. Will you survive? Welcome back Awall for a bloody good time. 5. Run and Hide: Reviled – Mememind Spoiler Get ready to run and hide, as Mememind returns with a director’s cut of his Boss Battle Bonanza map, tailored for Trick and Tear 2. The Redvile has a taste for your flesh, and he’s ready to make you into some human BBQ. Survive long enough to send him and his minions back to hell in a handbasket. 6. Silent Doom – Myolden Spoiler Fog blurring your sight, you find yourself on eerie streets built by PUSS veteran Myolden, in honor of the name sake. The denizens of this town are not welcoming. Show them that you mean business. 7. Check Engine Light – Nottyrone Spoiler “The Spookiest Thing of All.” – NotTyrone P.S. – If you haven’t had enough Archvile’s yet. We’re not even halfway done. 8. Baron Central Station – Doomcat, Son of Death Bear Spoiler Prepare for a hot start and an epic battle in a hellish-marble train station. Doomcat prepares to ravage your soul with his 4th PUSS release. Grab that gun and start shooting…the dead won’t wait for you to catch your breath. 9. The Demon Train – LateNightPerson Spoiler You’ve made it aboard. Now survive it. All aboard the pain train, with PUSS veteran LateNightPerson as your conductor. Chugga Chugga BOOM BOOM! 10. Underground Cult Disturbance – fuGue_tv Spoiler As you venture deep below the surface into the base of a profane cult, know that PUSS newcomer fuGue_tv isn’t pulling any punches. And neither should you. 11. Chapel Perilous – Sobatchja Morda Spoiler New mapper and PUSS contributor, Sobatchja Morda sends you into the heart of a chapel filled with the worst that Hell has to offer. Send them back…vigorously. 12. A Choir of Churlish Charlatans – BluePineapple72 Spoiler Fearless PUSS leader, the most Azure of Fruits, returns with a hauntingly red battle through the darkness. C-can you hear that music? It’s the sounds of a thousand terrible things headed your way. When they find you, they will crush you, grind you into tiny pieces and blast you into oblivion! Don’t let them. 13. Nightmare in Sandy’s City – Death Bear Spoiler I’m coming for you. The streets are vacant of life, the growling of horrors from the nightmares you try and forget are all around you. The Zombie Apocalpyse is upon you, and you’re trapped in a city who’s mayor might just be the cause of this terror. Grab a gun and pump the dead full of lead. The only way out is through. 14. Sanity’s Return – WeirdSandwich Spoiler In the follow-up to their thrilling adventure through insanity in Trick and Tear, PUSS veteran WeirdSandwich sends you back into the darkness of the mind, investigating a disturbance that might not be what you think. 15. Feed – Death Bear Spoiler Haunting sky above, you are in the feeding grounds of hounds most foul. Led by their masters, the children of Baphomet, you hope you can make it through in one piece...knowing full well that the hounds want but one thing...to FEED on your flesh. Unhallowed Conclave – Peccatum Mihzamiz Spoiler In an impressive display of thematic mastery and advanced features, PUSS veteran Peccatum Mihzamiz welcomes you to the "Triune of Horrors". Wander through a mirrored maze, bob for apples, and unleash hell on hordes of dark creatures. The end is nigh. 17. At Midnight’s Hour, Unwillingly – Peccatum Mihzamiz Spoiler Beneath the prayer grounds, you find yourself once again in trouble. Brave the dark halls and fire back at anything that moves. The Final Trick (Credits) – Death Bear Spoiler A little map I made to commemorate my first led Community Project, but more importantly, the awesome contributions of all the above mappers. We managed to double the map content of the original Trick and Tear, and we have our first little credits map, something I’ve really enjoyed working on for everyone. Your friendly neighborhood Spider Bear gets to take the reins of the Headless Horseman’s steed and go hunting for some heads. The dead are coming! 8 hour mapping limit No jumping/crouching Map must run in GZDoom Orange Custom Skies (If your map design doesn't use a sky AT ALL, then ignore this rule.) Creepy MIDIs/ Music To quote from last year's rules: Maps must be made with as much "scare" factor as you can muster. Make your players feel worry at every corner they take. These maps are supposed to be tense. Don't worry too much about making a horror map. All that really matters is the theme; each map is supposed to be 'scary.' But if you can't make horror maps, don't feel obliged to do so. Prominent use of blood and bloodfalls The following is your new bestiary (Top to Bottom, Left to Right): - Chainsaw Zombie - Melee Zombie. Does NOT drop a chainsaw. - Trite - Skittering little buggers. - Zombie Fodder - Lumbering Melee Zombies. - Imp - Revenant - Hellion - Weaker Arch-Vile variant with a fireball. - Arch-Vile - Hellhound - Melee monster with a taste for human flesh. - Hell Squire - (Squire) Weaker version of a Hell Knight. - Hell Knight - Baron of Hell - Duke of Hell - (Belphegor) Tougher Baron with a 3-shot volley. Use Sparingly. - Cacodemon - Extra Festive, but otherwise the same. - Pain Elemental - Tortured Soul - Poison Clouds and such. - Lost Soul - Forgotten One - Like a lost soul, but squishier and more damaging. - Poison Soul - These boneheads are toxic. Oh, and the most important final rule: have fun! Resource pack: Trick & Tear 2 Resource (featuring GothicTex and custom assets) (12.20 MB) Maps are due either in the related discord channel or in this thread by Sunday the 24th at 11:59 PM CST. There will be no extension this time. Bug fixes by Saturday the 30th at 11:59 PM CST, so I can release in time for All Hallow’s Eve. Your mapping time can be nonconsecutive. Your timer will only go down when you are mapping, scripting or playtesting. Speedmaps will be under the honor rule. Neither you nor I can prove if a map went over the time limit or not, but one can kind of see what is and is not a speedmap. If you cheat, people will notice. (So don't be "that" guy). Any time in Slade used to give a custom sky, midi, etc. is outside of your mapping time. I would recommend spending some time looking over the texture pack before you begin mapping, so that you don’t waste time scrolling. Once your time is up, if you haven’t beaten your map, please spend time to verify that your level is beatable. Bug fixing is for fixing bugs, not adding new areas to your map. Your bug fixing period should be spent balancing ammo and fixing any potential gameplay errors, such as texture misalignment or soft locks. I’m generally okay with you sending me as many fixes as you make, as long as these fixes don’t overhaul any major sections of your map. You’re not supposed to be mapping after your time is up, you’re supposed to polish what you have. There is no limit to how many maps you can submit. Be reasonable, please. Unlike Death Bear. The director, Meme “Theperson” Mind, looked back on the movie, “I was not experienced enough in my talents for RaH, I look back on that film horribly.” Mememind was also quoted to say “I may have gone too far in a few places,” Why we bring up Run and Hide is that it was announced that a remake would be made along with 2021’s “Trick and Tear 2” linup. This remake named “Run and Hide: REviled” or “Run and Hide: The Mememind Cut.” Lets hope that this version is much better than the original. Soulless Posted October 15, 2021 (edited) Just played all maps done by now, cool maps so far guys. Gotta say Bad Religion by @Peccatum Mihzamiz was great fun, perfect halloween map! I couldnt beat Run and Hide by @Theperson , some lifts arent repeatable and you can easy get softlock, guess is because the mentioned gzdoom update. I found a little hom on Feed by @Death Bear , and got softlocked behind the blue key door (it requires yellow key from inside). About the secrets, I found one that was tagged somehow in a "random" sector, somewhere at the end of the room, pic below. I found it when I already did everything and decided to explore stuff on the auto-map. Loved the ammo & health balance. @Death Bear That was fun, always a pleasure to wipe out hordes of low tier monsters, zombie fodder is great for that matter. Fun fact, I found the regular shotgun almost at the end, had to make it through with the chaingun and the chainsaw, good times. I found a couple of things worth to mention, the big tech door isnt repeatable and theres also the blood dripping texture that is missing in some steps on those bloody stairs. Loved the ammo & health balance. @Death Bear That was fun, always a pleasure to wipe out hordes of low tier monsters, zombie fodder is great for that matter. Fun fact, I found the regular shotgun almost at the end, had to make it through with the chaingun and the chainsaw, good times. I found a couple of things worth to mention, the big tech door isnt repeatable and theres also the blood dripping texture that is missing in some steps on those bloody stairs. Comments: Didn't make the build time, because I am completely new to mapping. First creation. Known bugs: for some reason, I can't get the damn music to play Screenshots: EDIT: Sorry, ran out of time there by a minute, typed like a madman to get this done. So, to introduce myself: first time poster, long time reader, wanted to get a good incentive to start mapping and since I love Halloween I decided that this would be it. For a bit more context, first map I ever submitted to anything, was a lot harder than expected because I had to keep looking up documentation on getting things done. One thing that doesn't work is the music, no idea why, but I ran out of time.
