e2m8 UV-Speed in 13.83 w2m8-1383.zip

After I posted my shameless single tic beat of Gosu's tic beater, we tried to see if a sub 14 was possible. 1165 attempts later, and it is!

Confusion Constructions E1M8 stroller in 18:15. I can't believe I actually did it! I had exceptional luck. I was nowhere ready strategy-wise. I decided to have a couple of runs with no expectations of anything. This was that 'ok, one more try for this session'. In total most of my runs (about 350-450 of them) died at the first baron encounter. Another breakpoint was the second cyber. This time I had good luck with that but nothing I hadn't seen before; the cyber started fighting with the spider mastermind as it sometimes does. But so far so good. Then it's good, working strategies until I get to the point where I've started the large gate lowering, then go to collect the blue armor from the secret room, then return -- and die to one of the two cybers while trying to get past them. I had no working strategy for this part, I've just tried to demolish them using the army of barons. But this time things just looked promising; they were furiously infighting already. I managed to get past. If I remember right, I've only once (during my saveless strolling) gotten one switch pressed in the dark arena. But this time the infighting got promising. I managed to get one switch pressed and felt that this might be it. My luck continued, and with some precaution learned about the nature of the fight, I managed to get the second switch pressed. I knew that if I only could get out of the dark arena I'd be well, as I had a solid strategy for the final fight that worked pratically always (in practice anyway!). It did work well and I got my run. 18:15 is pretty good for this map in my opinion.

Here's the demo. Recorded in Crispy Doom using the -gameversion 1.9 parameter so run using that, although it might be automatic anyway, I don't know.

Confusion Constructions E1M7 UV-speed in 23:02. I put together a couple of strategies and then just went for it. About 30 attempts. I think it's a good map for UV-speed running, it needs different kinds of gameplay and has versatile arenas. There's a lot to improve but I'm not going to, at least not for now. This run has all kinds of clumsy accidents and bad timings; I think a better player could get it under 21, a great player might get sub 20. Recorded in Crispy Doom (-gameversion 1.9) and played keyboard-only. Here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/r3ctwkv4ay5h5bx/confcons-e1m7-uvspeed-2302.zip?dl=0

Hi slowfade. I'm not sure if the mods are 100% cool with this format, or just haven't had time to reply (again?). But as a friendly gesture, may I offer some advice on these posts?
1) Upload your .zip demos with the demo & .txt file directly to DoomWorld, here, in your post. When you're typing out that info, there's an option to drag-n-drop or upload/attach files. Use that (for 2 reasons). 1. That's how everyone does it & I believe it's preferred. 2. this way if you accidentally delete the file from your dropbox account, or the link gets messed up, etc. the files are still here.

You can get a good feel for the "standard way" by looking at all of the other posts by other people on this page. And try to make your uploads look similar. Here's a template if it's helpful:
WAD Name - something5.wad

WAD Title - This WAD is Something

Map - Category - Time

[demo link] (You can easily do this, by putting the cursor where you want the link, then just clicking on the uploaded file; the system will auto-post the hyperlink.

Then standardizing your text files genuinely helps the archive maintainers of all of the demos. They have a TON of work which they do for free. So sometime as simple as a clean, concise, and consistent text file cannot be understated how important that is.

This is how dsda-doom auto generates text files for demos (below), and I add **Uses Advanced HUD** and also "Recorded Date: "

Comments:

Also I wanted to say I think it's cool you're adding comments here as well. I can relate to the feeling of my run looking subpar to my own standards, or feeling like I make mistakes, or even a run I think is "good" but know "a better/skilled runner will crush this" - but I blabber about all that in my text files lol.

Anyway, cheers!

Thanks for information, those are points I honestly never thought about. I wasn't thinking of them being added to / adding them to DSDA or anything, just posting here. I'm fine if someone adds them, but I didn't plan on it. I'll do things differently with the next demo.
