  6. BLUDBTH3.WAD

This level is designed to be a fast paced deathmatch level with a Doom ][ feel. The level is very smooth flowing. You'll find yourself covering all of the level. The weapon layout was well thought out, so that certain weapons are more desirable to obtain than others. For instance every one will know were you are when getting the Plasma. Since the Super Shotgun has become such a favorite weapon in deathmatch, that also has a slight degree of consequence, but is located so that every one will be going for it. Ammo and health were also major factors. I felt that the super health was just a little to much, so in the exit I put 60 health potions (don't you hate when your screen stays white for a while). And you'll only find the green armor. Loaded up you'll survive a rocket in the face with maybe 20% heatlth (where was that health again). The level has at least 50 hours 2 player deathmatch testing, so everything was debated, from sound (certain sound, certain area), lighting, warp in spots, starting points, weapon layout, health layout, and even graghics. So if your not satisfied with this level, you just don't know what deathmatch is! This level is best played with -altdeath and deathmatch 2.0. One hint is to keep the Super shotgun away from the other guy as much as possible. Also when exiting the plasma room launch a BFG, it'll at least even the score!

  10. C5Gold.wad

This was my first level and it incoporates many ideas for things that I would like to see in a deathmatch level. I wrote it about a year and a half ago and my friends and I have had hundreds of hours of fun on it. I thought that I would upload it and see if any one else enjoyed it. Map 1 was designed first and is best played with two players. Map 2 has more places to go and more places to hide with the addition of many automatic doors to facillitate the added complexity of three or four players. The levels seem large at first but they should rapidly become quite familiar. Weapons are spread evenly around the level, so it should be easy to get back in the game after a frag. The use of deathmatch starts facillitates this by preventing instant anihillation upon regenration. If you like this level (or if you don't) please send me an e-mail so I'll know if anyone is even playing Doom II anymore.

  11. Control #1

    This is my first WAD designed specifically for DM. The reason it's called control is because in this level, you have several ways to "control" the other player, or know where they are. ___ / \ _____ \ N / _____ | | | | | | | |s | | | | | |s__| |___| | | W B B E | | B_________B | | | s| | | | s| | |_____| |_____|

There are two main rooms (W and E on the ascii), each having two switches in them ("s"). There is a small, blue light between each room's switches. We'll get to the signifigance of this in a moment. Connecting the two main rooms is a hallway. A hallway leading off of the connecting hallway takes the player to the best weapon (N) in the level. However, both ends of the connecting hallway have bars (B) that anyone in either of the main rooms can control, via the two switches. If the other player dashes in to get the goodies, you have simply to throw a certain switch, and the evil, greedy person is trapped in the center. How are you to know when they're going for the items? There are three ways:

    1. ESP 2. You're a good player and pay attention 3. You notice that the small blue light is blinking.

Yes, the small blue light blinks rapidly whenever someone is going for the weapons. Furthermore, if it stops blinking and is bright, they are inside the weapon room. If it stops dark, they're back out in the interconnecting hallway (and probably headed right for you with their new found arsenal). Anyway, say you have them trapped in the hallway. Now you have three choices:

    1. Set them free. 2. Shoot them through the windows/bars. ***3. Taunt them until they commit suicide.***

I think the answer's obvious. >:) The other way you can control the other player is through operating (more specifically, closing) the large doors to the outside in the west and east. Once again, the doors are controlled by sets of two switches, one to open and the other to close. The trick here is that in order to open, say, the east door, the player has to run westward through the connecting hallway in order to get to the switches that control the east door. Then, they have to run back through the hallway AGAIN to get back to the eastern door. I don't think you need to be told that this is the perfect opportunity to play jail. ;) (Even if you aren't able to trap them as they run back to the now open door, you can easily close the door again with the flick of a switch. In essence, the other player is trapped. He has to brave the hallway and, if he makes it, face you, or die of boredom just sitting around. For you, it's a win-win situation.)

4 rocking Deathmatch levels! These levs are small enough for two people and are great for a 3-4 player fragfest! All feature a chasm (hence the name) in the center of the level. 3 of the 4 levels have teleports in the chasm for great telefragging! Other features: light switches, BFG hidden under crushing ceiling, NO CO-OP EXITS...

Needless to say, the completed version took 1.5 months to do.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
