ASSUMPTIONS:
It has been several years since the last incursion of
hellspawn. The UAC starts to assume that the gates could be safe
again. Their top scientists have scanned a distant solar system,
several light years away. They named it Beta Hekara, home to 4 major
planets that could sustain life, 5 other less hospitable planets and
100s of asteriods, all in orbit around the Hekara sun which is only
slightly larger than our sun.
They set about making gates, first on their list was
measures to ensure safety against potential attacks. Looking at the
frequencies of the original gates, they decided that if they used a
high bandwidth and modulation, they could prevent anything from
breaking through. The hardest thing they had to do was to find a way
of getting the gates further out into space. First they sent a gate
into orbit around Mars, they beamed a gate through it and then the
original through that, and so on, until it was millions of miles into
space. That kept on for 6 months, until finally it the outer gate was
in the Beta Hekara system. They beamed a scouter ship from mars, and
it went there and back safely within just a few hours.
Within another 6 months they had settlements and
mining complexes on all of the major planets. Materials and personel
were carried from the Main Gate System (MGS) on Mars in the original
System to the Centrux in the Beta Hekara system
DISCONNECTION:
Then the gates went down. There was no warning, no
strangeness in the running of the gates, they just stopped working.
The settlers were marrooned. A supply ship had been on its way
through the gates at the time. The UAC scientists waited for its
return, with 100 marines pointing plasma rifles and rocket launchers
at the MGS. 2 days later there was a crackle of electricity and blue
lightning bolts poured through the gates, killing the marines in its
wake. The supply ship was back. The UAC scanned the gate site for
life. Finding nothing living, they sent a strike force down of 50
soldiers. All they could see was 100 charred corpses surrounding the
bloody pulsating metalic object that was the ship.
BLOODY DISCOVERIES:
You had been into hell and back when they attacked
Mars, and you saved earth from their evil invasion, several years
ago. You were on the stike force. You stepped forth with the other 49
marines, containment suit and oxygen supply checked and triple checked.
Inside the supply ship everything was dark and quiet.
The strike force shone their torches into the grimness of the ship,
corpses lay everywhere. Written in blood on the ceiling was three
words. "We are back"
As the UAC officials monitored the radio and video
feeds from the marines they saw the writing too. Using their
computers to access the MSG control system they turned the gate on.
The gate crackled with plasma energies, blood flooded from it and
then the ship was gone. Afterwards, the UAC high commander ordered
the MSG to be nuked.
THE ABYSS:
Inside the ship everything was moving, Marines were
being pushed through the walls, walls were moving in on Marines. Then
the ship burst open, sending the Marines into the subspace plane of
reality that was the connection to Beta Hekara. Hideous demons and
mutant humans burst forth, ripping into the marines with such
savagery that only one of the 50 strong strike force had ever seen before.
You fought them for hours, gutting them down with your
plasma rifle, rocket launcher and BFG15K. Finding yourself without
ammo, you punch any monstrosity that dares to attack you.
ITS UP TO YOU:
With a flash of light it was over. You arrived in the
Beta Hekara system. You look around, realising that you are on the
Centrux satelite that coordinates the colonies, bases and mines of
Beta Hekara. The only other thing that had passed through the gate
was corpses. Scanning radio feeds you discover that all the bases are
under seige.
With just a standard issue pistol that you've found on
one of your former team mates and a watch that links you to the
Centrux you step forth to deliver Beta Hekara from hells seige. |
