    Perpendicular Parking

    By AndrewB, in News,

The Parallel Team updated for the first time 58 days. As well as mentioning how their snazzy-looking level is still not complete, they've posted a few new screenshots, perhaps as a sneaky method of damage-control. I can't think of anything else to say.

    10 Sectors Contest

    By Linguica, in News,

That's right it's Contest Time again at Doomworld, and this time we're actually going to announce the winners and give out prizes (*cough*Covaro*cough*). What's the contest about, you ask? Well... we're going to see just how creative your twisted little brain can be. See, we want you to make a single-player map... but we're only giving you ten sectors to do it with. Impossible, you say? Well then, I guess you won't be winning the Voodoo 5 5500 AGP on the line as first prize. Did that make your ears perk up a little? If so, head on over to the contest page and check out the nitty gritty.

    COMPET-News

    By Linguica, in News,

COMPET-N has finally updated after a long period of inactivity with lots of new demos and the like. The big news this time around is the inclusion (again) of co-op Doom demos into the COMPET-N databases, mainly because dedicated co-op sites like Coop-N "couldn't get the attention of the news sites." Yeah, that's what happens when you never send in any emails :P Some of the cool new demos include Map07 in 0:06 and Map15 0:20, both in co-op of course (if someone can do Map07 in 0:06 by themselves I will give them a dollar).

    DWBS

    By Linguica, in News,

Although he hasn\'t been around that long, I feel that I should mention it: today is the birthday of AndrewB, who has recently been doing The /newstuff Chronicles as well as a smidgen of news at times around here. Be sure and first-post those birthday wishes. I think he\'s 16 now, so look both ways when you cross the road. For his birthday present I went back in time and rigged Dukrous\'s contest to make sure he won the signed Doom 2 box (sorry to Mike Watson who had actually won it, but since I\'ve changed the past you won\'t know the difference anyway).

    Doom Millennium

    By Mordeth, in News,

Could it be true, you ask? Sure. At the Team Insanity site a new Doom Millennium page has opened. They have updated on the exact status of this TC: maps, textures, music, sprites, engine.. you name it. To summarise, it's "just about complete" but if you want to find out more click your way over to their site!

    New DTest

    By Mordeth, in News,

At the JDoom site you can find a new test version of the client/server executable DTest. Among the improvements are: Memory leak in MD2 loader fixed. Music player pitch bend bugs fixed. Wall orientation affects lighting (it'd now appear that world light comes from the right). -maxzone accepts K and M as postfixes. For instance, "-maxzone 16m" allocates 16 megs, and "-maxzone 9500k" would allocate 9.5 megs for the memory zone. The Enter key is no more hardcoded in JDoom (to view the last HUD message use the console command msgRefresh). You can find the new DTest mirrored at our source port section.

    The /newstuff Chronicles #5

    By AndrewB, in News,

The latest batch of DOOM-related WAD files found on CDROM.COM.
Lottadm by Thomas Bringle - Just another Map01 replacement this time. Again, basic level design. No real eye candy. The ammo and health balance of this level is very good, especially on skill 4. If you find yourself with 1% health and shotgunners all around (like I did), this one can be a real thriller to survive (which I did). It should be quite enjoyable. The Dark Portal by 3D Delta Developers - This 5-level hub for Hexen shows some real quality. What more of an exciting way to lead off an adventure than battling several Dark Bishops with only a close-range weapon? This WAD also comes equipped with some quality new music. If you're into Hexen, these levels will be fun. Kingpin Soundpack by chrisdrgn@hotmail.com - The title says most of it; a two-megabyte sound WAD for Doom 2. Nearly all of the sounds have been replaced in this sound pack. The quality is good, at 22KHz. Even if you aren't familiar with these sounds, playing with this WAD loaded should still be fun. The Lair by Mike Cobb - This green-stone-castle-themed Doom 2 level can be accurately described by its two highlights; ridiculously large, ridiculously difficult. As well as being pumped up with huge monsters, this WAD includes some sprites from Wolfenstien 3D, as well as an unfitting grunge/rock music track to go with its enormous level. Jantom by Thomas Bringle - Yet another basic Map01 WAD. Nice, simple level design. Even without any fancy new textures or special effects, these WADs are showing some definite atmosphere. The portions of health and ammunition in this level are a little more generous than previous ones. But still, a decent download. The Lost Base by Rishabh Mittal - Another single Doom 2 map. While this level is marginally large, it does seem to have been rushed, which can be distracting. This map is equipped with many small and mid-sized monsters, and the ammo and health seems to be unbalanced. Textures are misaligned for no apparent reason. Very basic room shapes. Should it be downloaded? Decide for yourself. Terrain by Rishabh Mittal - This Doom 2 map is pretty much like the last one. Only smaller, and with less puzzles. It's more or less a cakewalk in single-player mode. Pretty much pointless in cooperative play, and simply bad in deathmatch. That is all. Goldeneye Doom2 TC by Derek Souers - The newest version of the Goldeneye Doom2 Total Conversion! This game looks quite impressive. Accurately emulating the levels of the Nintendo 64 version almost down to the very enemy! Even the music is realistic. Of course, this is the DOOM engine, so some corners had to be cut. But still, very interesting. MaimTown by Simon Judd - Another single map for Doom 2. This one shows some quality. It has a few typical special effects. Bulletproof windows, sparkling/crackling lights, and other ZDoom goodness. The map design is pretty nice, and the background music it uses is okay. Requires ZDoom.

Lawrence Hunter sent word that he has made a character generator for Richard Clark's DNTC RPG game. It comes with high recommendations from the man himself. You can find it at his site.
