    Mellow Out

    By Linguica, in News,

DOSDoom and bot enthusiast (and recipient of a deathmatch beatdown by yours truly) Captain Mellow has put up a csDoom page devoted to that greatest of multiplayer ports. Currently there isn't too much on the page as it just opened, but there is a wishlist from Mr. Mellow for the next version, as well as a link to Ricrob's WAD page which has a list of lots of common DM WADs you might want to have handy.

    Speed Demons

    By Linguica, in News,

The Tool-Assisted Demos homepage has posted one measly new demo, but it's quite nice: the immortal E1M1, 100% kills and secrets, in a mere 26 seconds. It's a cheated demo of course, but who cares?

I was sent the news that Yoghurt's page has been updated with a new version of the Doom Wars mod, bringing it up to version 0.32. This new version is based in the Doom Legacy 1.29 (pre-release 7) port, which enables the option of multiplayer games over the Internet. The Cajun Botwas updated too, now being based on ZDoom 1.22.

    id Moves

    By Linguica, in News,

id Software's game designer Graeme Devine updated his .plan today with the news that id Software is moving to a new office building. No more suite 666? No more black cube? I guess Map13 will be the only memory we have of the big black id building... (it is Map13, right?)

    Romero On Doom 3

    By Linguica, in News,

Stomped has posted an interview with John Romero which naturally talks about Daikatana, but also briefly touches on the Doom 3 issue:
There's a little more Doom 3 stuff too, so check it out. John Romero was one of the level creators / designers for Doom and Doom 2, in case you've been living under a rock for the past seven years.

    JDoom Progress

    By Mordeth, in News,

The JDoom site has a small blurp on the immediate plans for this OpenGL Doom port, in addition to the progress report posted yesterday on the JHexen site. It seems the author won't be supporting dehacked patches in their current form. He also gives a tip on how to get rid of a "washed out" sprites display.

    ZDoom Scriptease

    By covaro, in News,

Janizdreg has updated his place with two simple little scripts that work with ZDoom and do a few fun things. One is a Zoom script while the other is a simple on/off switch for the music. Pretty nifty stuff there. Hehehehe... I said nifty.

    New csDoom

    By Linguica, in News,

Version 0.5 of csDoom has been officially released. What's new? Well, mlook has been added back in, but you can't aim your BFG at the ground for cheap kills (that's been disabled to prevent lamity). DMflags have been added to deal with things such as mlook and jumping. Player prediction has been improved. And, most importantly, there is now a launcher which queries a master server to find all the games currently running. Besides the new client and server, the 0.5 client source code has been released as well. It truly is a good day...

    Doomer's Recess Review

    By covaro, in News,

Over at the Doomer's Recess there is a new review of Wes Burd's Suicide. No no no, someone didn't kill themselves, it's the name of the level. Sheeze.

*SNIP*[quote] The design is there. The gameplay is there. And most of all: The originality is there. Once again Wes Burd has accomplished the (almost) impossible. He has made a map unlike any other seen in the community. The level is unique and that is its strength.....</blockquote></font>For the full review you gotta get a move on over to the Recess. But remember, playtime is over!

    Jaakko's Plans

    By Mordeth, in News,

Jaakko Keränen has sketched out the immediate plans for his Heretic, Hexen and Doom OpenGL ports at the JHexen site, illustrated with two new screenshots. First, there will be proper blending of dynamic lights, followed by replacing sprites with MD2 counterparts and real client/server networking. O yes! All this should be done within the next three weeks and culminate in a final version, and the source to all this goodness will be released as well. After this, Jaakko unfortunately "must go".
