    See Doom 3! (Maybe)

    By Linguica, in News,

Well looky here. If you've been itching to get a behind-the-scenes peek at the new Doom game in early production, here's a good way to get one. You can actually buy a trip to id Software over on Amazon.com, complete with limo service, a hotel voucher, a tour of the id offices, DMing in Q3, and maybe a peek at Doom 3 if you're really lucky or can hax0r their computers. It's currently at $127.50 although I bet it gets up to $1000. Now if only I could get id to let me in to see the new Doom game without having to bribe them...

    The Mystery Of Frag.com

    By AndrewB, in News,

Back in April of this year, DOOM news site known as DoomNation went down unexpectedly. It turned out that its parent site, Frag.com had gone offline, supposedly to \"change servers\"... Months passed, and Frag.com never came back online. Foul play was cried out all over the land. The DOOM community mourned a great loss. Not only for the loss of the news site DoomNation, but for the hosted sites of DoomNation, as well as those of Frag.com...
... But now, Frag.com has returned. Its site has come back up, with this message. Does this mean that DoomNation and related sites may return? Probably not. But who knows what tomorrow may bring?
Update by Linguica: Frag.com has been back up with that message for a couple of months now, but whatever :)
Update by AndrewB: Oh drat, now I look like a fool.

    DWBS

    By Linguica, in News,

Matt Dixon sent me his final results from judging the 10 Sectors WAD contest, including his top 32 levels, as well as top 10, 3, and 1. I'm not sure if I agree with his choice for number one, but at least he's done with it, and once the other four judges send in their choices we can slap together the WADs and be done with it.
What were those secret Skulltag bots again?

    New Kesler WAD

    By Linguica, in News,

Kurt Kesler, one of the ten greatest WAD authors according to y'all, winged us off an email letting us know that KZDoom5 has been finished and subsequently released over at his site. As he says, "As all of my Zdoom wads are, this one cannot run in OpenGL mode... I must warn you, in skill 4 you must use the chaingun, and shotgun bullets before killing the Cyberdemon with the rockets.....MUHAHAHAH!"

    Mellow Out

    By Linguica, in News,

Captain Mellow's Mellow Land Productions page has been updated with more news about his sidescrolling Doom game, which has become quite a learning experience for him. As he says, "I would like to have a storyline, mission-based scenarios, & perhaps some sort of botmatch thing. The story will be centered around Flynn Taggert & his various missions vs. the hellish minions in different settings." Sounds cool to me.

    The /newstuff Chronicles #12

    By AndrewB, in News,

Eight new WADs in our slightly-delayed, weekly presentation of the goodies found on CDROM.COM...
Taste For Blood by Edward Mullins - A three-level deathmatch WAD for Doom 2. Although these levels are small, which seems to be more or less a positive for most DMers, they look pretty decent, with good map quality. Even some puzzles and tricks here and there. And there's even some decent music replacements to remove some of the tedium of the classic Doom 2 soundtrack. Requires ZDoom. Ghostbusters Doom by Thomas Stovicek - Not to be confused with the Doomworld-hosted Ghostbusters Doom 2 Total Conversion, this 6-level Partial Conversion looks quite impressive. Lots of ghosts, ghouls, and neat weapons, as well as a couple of special effects such as exploding walls, and invisible teleporters. There's even some Ghostbusters music installed at no extra charge! The sounds are spooky as well. Overall, very nice! It sets a very distinct mood. ZDoom recommended. Tricks & Traps by SDS - Just another single map for Doom 2. The size of the map is quite large, but alas, the level design and detail fall quite short of today's standards. Well, at least there's some Heretic music thrown in there, which suits it a little better. Deus Ex Wasabi by Prower - A single map for Doom 2. Very large, open areas, with a lava-based theme, much like Mt. Erebus. Although not too terribly crazy in detail, this level still looks nice. It plays well, although easy even in skill 4. More than enough ammo to go around. Should be entertaining. Requires ZDoom. Toon2b by Sparky - Well, this version B updated WAD easily falls into the category of one of the strangest ever. Some cartoony sprites are put into this WAD. As well as a couple of new textures, a bunch of new sounds, a complete music replacement. Oh yes, and 32 levels, albeit the quality of said maps remain a little shabby. Be wary of those sounds, though. They're a little rough around the edges. X-mas Deathmatch by Tormentor667 - This is pleasant enough. A deathmatch WAD for Doom 2 with all the warm cozy Christmas cheer. Some new textures, sprites, weapons... Some cheery Christmas music, and all the white fluffy snow you can handle. Get in gear for the Christmas mood, and download this WAD! The SpawnSQwad 2000 by Various Authors - A 32-level deathmatch WADpack for Doom 2. Combining deathmatch levels from all sorts of WADs, this megawad turns out to be pretty good. The level design in said levels are mostly good. Perhaps ideal for hosting on a csDoom server. Quite interesting! Doom Dorks by Sparky - A partial conversion for Doom 2, with various cartoon characters and sounds inserted. Be warned, though! Some of those sounds are rather unclean.
