    Echo Watchers

    By AndrewB, in News,

Things are really starting to heat up at The Chaos Crew! Caverns Of Darkness is getting closer and closer to being complete! With the exception of a few imperfections here and there, the levels are finished. A few sounds are missing, some graphics are yet to be built, but this thing is almost ready! Feel the tension mounting. That's all I have to say.

    New Doom Engine Info

    By Linguica, in News,

I was doing a little bit of surfing just now when I found this post over at Doom3 @ Stomped where id programmer Jim Dosé gives some info about the new Doom engine:
Hey Jim, come post around these parts while you're at it :P

    Cavernous

    By Linguica, in News,

The Chaos Crew sent in a big long thing which they wanted me to post here on DW... never being one to diss a hosted site here you go, but I've tamed it down a little since I didn't feel like devoting an entire page of text to one update.
Whee... BTW, the Chaos Crew's Chris Lutz is one hell of an author, as you'll find out when we release the 10 Sectors WAD :)

    The /newstuff Chronicles #14

    By AndrewB, in News,

Five new WAD files in our weekly splurge of the new files found on CDROM.COM.
Close Kill by Russell Pearson - A single deathmatch level for Doom 2. Deathmatch being its primary purpose, although there are a few monsters scattered throughout. Although rather small, good detail, good design. A nice looking deathmatch level. Tunnel Run by Russell Pearson - This is a fine, fine level. A single-player level for Doom 2, with extremely well-done detail. Superb light detail, and great ammo and health balance! It\'s a very large level, too. You should enjoy this map! ArenaLX by aMoEba - A single deathmatch map for Doom 2. Rather small, in a simply-designed area. Some colorful textures, although not too much detail. The entire level is rather dark, which can be an exciting twist! Try it out, see what you think of it. Nowhere by Andrew Gate - Nine deathmatch levels for Ultimate DOOM, sitting on episode three. These levels are from 1994, so detail is missing. There are some monsters in some of these levels, which could be a fun thing if people would start to consider playing deathmatch with monsters! There are some music changes, but overall, it\'s nothing special. The Final Geometry by Rick Lipsey - A single map for Doom 2. Again, not much detail to this map, although it is complex. Lots of areas, and a moderate number of monsters. Not overwhelming, but not underwhelming. Standard Doom 2 textures, seemingly randomly used. If you\'re starved for a new Doom 2 level, this just might satisfy some sort of craving.

    COMPET-News

    By Linguica, in News,

The COMPET-N homepage has a new update with all sorts of wacky new demos to watch. Also, there's a new contest running where you have to grab three keys of the same color on any Doom / Doom 2 level sequence you like with the fastest time possible.

    DWBS

    By Linguica, in News,

10 Sectors news... still haven't gotten anything new from Mordeth or Martin Friberg, but Malcolm Sailor did email me to say that I should probably forget about him as a judge since he's been pretty busy with non-computer stuff lately. Once the now four judges are all done I'll put together a WAD of "best" levels as picked by the 4 judges and then get some, um, outside opinions to help decide who will be number one. Oh yeah, and when I said that the visit id Software auction would probably hit $1000, I guess I was being a little conservative.

    Hostile Realm

    By AndrewB, in News,

Over at Wim Vanrie's Doom Site, more speedrun contest news is rampant! It's become a real dogfight between the Root and the Mole. Both of them trying to break the twenty-minute barrier. Rumor has it that the Root has already surpassed that magical number, but then again, it may all be just a bunch of blah. You don't have to miss out on all the fun! You can enter as well! All the necessary details are provided on their "Lmp Competition" page. It could be you!

    Musical Fantasy

    By AndrewB, in News,

Big, big news over at Fanatic's Asylum. Delicate Balance has gone gold! A little while ago, actually... But word is that the CD and graphics art is all perfect! That means that Delicate Balance, the 11-track, 32-minute album, will be shipping soon, for only $12 US, including shipping and other taxes, hopefully...
In other news, Fanatic's car stereo equalizer has gone bananas. His speakers are popping as well. Maybe he wants us to buy him a new stereo system for his car. Seems like a fair deal, with QDOOM hopefully coming out soon. Still two and a half maps left to go with QDOOM. Evidently, it's been that way for a while now. If he finishes QDOOM, we can buy him a better stereo. Can't we, guys? Girls? Well, whatever. Now go put down your downpayment for Delicate Balance, while you still can!

Some more contest news, over at Skulltag! Still, no prize has been selected as of yet. Send in as many entries as you want! The entries being, your tagline description of what Skulltag is! The more you enter, the better your chance of winning! And while you're there, take a look at their updated poll. See the last poll's results, and engage into a deep thought. And then vote, as the situation may warrant...

    By Linguica, in News,

Joel Murdoch's Doom Page has been updated with a new review of The Darkening episode 2. He also talks about the sudden revival of the Chaos Crew, with the news that Caverns of Darkness is nearly done, and discusses the source mod for the Mordeth partial conversion a bit.
